Do you name your chickens and if so how do you choose their names.

Hmm, a variety of names, some with us now and some not: Bamboo, Tetley, Raven, PG Tips, Crow, Duckling, Smudge, Mohawk, Mohawk II, Elf, Twig, Ivy, Hazel, Willow, Pumpkin, Thelma, Louise, Wallace, Gromit, Ginger, Ginger II, Flapjack, Horlicks, Rhiannon, Eowyn, Spike, Sky Lark, Big Yellow, Little Yellow, Stripey and Blacky.

Now I'm going to look back at some of your names and steal them... I mean inspire myself with them lol

Gladys, Aretha, Patty (RSL)
Skull (Black Silkie Roo) <named by my almost six year old son...
Bindie Sue (BA)
Godzilla Brown Leghorn Roo what a comb!!!
Ethel and Lucy - RIR
Thelma and Louise - Barred Rock
Mocha and Latte - Brown Leghorn
Angel - White Leghorn

I think there's a resemblence factor. My sex links reminded me of Diva's and were named accordingly. Godzilla started off with another name but then turned into a boy ;-) his comb got him his name. The others came in pairs so that's what they got. Bindie Sue... I have to admit I'm a sucker for the late crocodile hunter and I named her for his daughter. Skull... I don't have much to say about that...and Angel is the odd ball but the name suits.

I only have four, but yes I named them. The names were chosen from people I knew from my childhood. Also, these names were some of the most popular names in 1890's. My Grandmother, Maude. A Great Aunt, Ozella. A dear lovely lady, Iona. And one, a name I just liked very much...Claire.

You could name them as their personalities develop.

All except the poor meat chickens

I like the names from the late 1800's and early 1900's for my birds, too!
Mine are:
Ruby (Brahma/Buff Orpington cross)
Clementine (Blue Cochin)
Prudence (actually turned out to be a rooster - he's a GLW. We call him P-Roo now)
Homie D Hen - we thought she was the roo, named her "Homer", and then, well..... not a roo.
HenRietta - a black Orpington
Muriel - black Orpington
Benita (Or Benny for short) - Ameraucana
Truffles - black Cochin

ANd our two guineas, named by my husband:
Itchy & Scratchy.

okay, I'll play...

We usually just call them collectively "the Ding Dongs" but they do have names. It always startles me a bit that I can tell them each apart...

Mine were named for garden flowers:

Violet (the bossiest ever)
Fern (the wanna be)
Lily (the needy)
Daisy (aka: Crazy Daisy Crooked Toes)
Rosey-Posey (RIP sweet Rosey)

Cool post... Our new hens are:

Francis Fricassée the Frizzle (Black Frizzle)

Buffy McNugget (Buff Cochin)

Hillary Hot Wings (Silver Laced Cochin Bantam)

Yes, the kids and BF "helped" name them
