Do you name your chickens and if so how do you choose their names.

Hhmm.. the ones memorable from 10 years ago...

Meanie - Black Bantam hen, vicious lil thing!! Sweet to me though.

Monty - Aurocana Roo, just came to me when looking at him.

Trumpet - Monty's hen... for how she talked REALLY loud

Jibbers and Jabbers - Black Bantam Roo brothers, they never shut up! All sorts of little roo noises all day long. Best pet of the whole flock was Jibbers.

Puffy - Token Cochin Bantam

Squinty - Blind Silver Seabright Roo

Frizzle - Token GIANT Frizzle hen who became Squinty's keeper... very comical indeed.

Princess - Very first hen, very pretty black bantam, sweet and quiet and ladylike. (unlike Meanie, who was really quite ugly)

BB King - BBRed Bantam Roo... boss man himself.

Any that didn't stand out personality/looks wise I can't seem to recall.

I thought it would be fun to name my chickens according to a theme....like..girls names in the Bible..Dalilah, Rahab or Abigail. Or herb names Jasmine, Clover, Ginger. Or color names...Dawn, Gracie, Goldilocks, Butterscotch. Anyway change the theme each time you buy a new batch! Blessings and Have Fun!

One of the first chickens we raised was so interested in my DH. She would sit on his shoulder, snuggle, and follow him around. She even sat next to him during our first butchering of our meaties. He had just finished watching a James Bond marathon on TV so he named this chicken Miss Money Penny. (James Bond's secretary who was infatuated with James but nothing would ever become of it.)

My first silkie roo---was trying to court all the girls- so he got the name Romeo, then I have 3 partridge hens, called the Golden girls, then a friend gave us a chick that turned out to be a big black rooster like his so his name is Jr, I had two giant ones we called our Godzilla girls, that ended up being Godzilla guys. I have a white silkie rooster that when he crows he sounds like her says frog at the end of his crow so we call him Kermit. The others will get their name in time. Teresa in WV

Well, let's see. There's Gloria and Alleluia because they are gloriously gold Ameracaunas. There's Praise and Worship, who needed to go with Gloria and Alleluia because they are also Ameracaunas, but silver laced. Then there's Big Red, because he is, and Jethro, Timmy and Carl, who were already named when I got them. Same with Thumbelina the tiny and Cracker. Salt is white, and Pepper is black with white speckles. Mrs. Speck and Mr. Speck are the Speckled Sussex, and Mrs. Campini is the Golden Campine...Buster because I always used to say, Hey, Buster, you wait just a minute! when he was little...Domina, Delilah and Desiree, the evil Barred Rock hen triplets that I have to keep separate because they beat up EVERYONE else, and Candy, Cindy, Carol, Clarissa and Cathy, the Buff Orp girls who live with Carl....and Chiclet, because he used to be little and cute like a chiclet...and Bitsy because she was itsy bitsy for so long.....and many more yet to be named.

As long as I don't get too many I'll name them. I have 5 now and my daughter (being a Hannah Montana fan) has named our 1st 3 after characters on the show (Hannah-white leghorn,, Lily-Barred Rock & Miley-EE)...then my other 2 are Lucy (a japanese bantam) and Annabelle (showgirl).

Yes, I do name my chickens:

The first bunch all named after a candy that their color resembles:

Licorice: A Black Star Hen
Caramel: A Wheaton Americauna
Skittles, Snickers, Toffie, Taffie, Butterscotch: all Americauna's

Ruby: A Rhode Island Red pullet
Sam: A Buff Orphington Pullet named after a cute little blonde girl I know named Samantha

Mrs. T: A beautiful Production Red named after my sister who has beautiful red hair. My sisters nickname is TT for Tareisa
B.B.: A Black Australorp Hen: BB is for black beauty

The names pretty well fit them all
