Do you prefer Chickens or Quail?

I'll admit that I don't know much about chickens. I've heard a lot of people say how friendly they are, though. To me that's actually a minus to me because I raise my birds for meat as well as eggs. I would have a really hard time butchering an animal that was friendlier to me. It's hard enough with the quail who will sit trustingly in the sink while I'm sharpening the shears.

My great-grandmother could call each of her chickens to her by name and reach out and snap its neck for dinner.

I'm vegan.

I am sure it would be hard. I intended to raise my chickens for eggs and meat, and so far I can't bring myself to eat any of my chickens. Maybe if I raised them strictly for meat it might make a difference. I have thought it would be easier with quail because I don't relate to them as much. So far, I have not killed any of them either.

I have just one coturnix hen as a house pet so I am not a professional breeder or something... but this whole "chickens have all colorful personalities while quails are skittish livestock" thing is quite prejudiced in my opinion Quails are not only easy to manage/harvest, they also make great friendly pets!
I'm keeping my quail indoors and she is the only one that hatched from the bunch. She grew up around humans and would gladly come when her name is called, jump on my lap and take a nap, enjoy cuddles and got addicted to a smartphone app at a certain point. Plus, quail poops are much harder and less stinky than chicken poo, so you can easily pick them up with a piece of toilet paper(of course, cecal feces are always runny and stinky). I persomally find them less demanding and more human friendly than hamsters.

I’ve kept chickens over 40 years and quail for 25+.. quail are definitely cheaper, kept in a much smaller footprint and easier to keep. The trade off is in the amount of meat per bird and size of eggs you get for eatin.. currently I have 53 chickens, 46 layers and 7 roosters plus a trio of turkeys.. and 43 Coturnix layers and 6 rooster quail plus 36, 3 day old Coturnix chicks. And 17 meat rabbits.. they don’t have names they are not pets, my 3 dogs have names and are the only pets I have. I also have 7 barn cats that are wild no names, 3 of which will come within 6 ft of me. That’s right where I want a cat.. carry on
