Do you read books more than once?

I've read The Stand 3x through the years, 1984 2x...books on tape I will listen to several times simply to pass the time. Call of the Wild I've read several times too, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy...a few others. For me, it's kind of like watching a really good movie more than once - I find little details I missed with each reading.

I too get a lot out of books I read more than once, and there are many favorites that I have read multiple times. I tend to read too fast and miss a lot the first time, or times. And there are others where I enjoy being with the characters so much that I want to re-visit them many times again.

When my children were first born I was looking forward to sharing my favorite childhood works of fiction with them. But they are not big fans of reading fiction (they prefer reading non-fiction). But now we're listening to books on CD while driving, and we all are enjoying them. The boys like listening to the stories as we drive along, and I'm discovering a wonderful new dimension to old favorite books by listening to them read aloud.

Right now we're listening to the Little House on the Prairie books. That's a series I've read many times over. I especially like to read The Long Winter right before a hurricane hits my town. I figure if the Ingalls could bravely survive 6 months of blizzards then my family can certainly face whatever one hurricane can do to us.

I read a lot of my favorites over and over and over again. I've read my Harry Potter paperbacks so many times, they are duct-taped together. I did buy all the hardback HP, but I prefer my old tattered paperbacks.
