Do you still have to worm if you use DE?

Hahahahaha LOL! If you've read any of my worming posts for others, I can assure you that MY chickens dont have worms! LOL. All the pics are off the internet. The odds of a worm showing up in an egg are very slim, but it can happen. Just another reason to keep your chickens wormed on a regular basis. I worm quarterly due to our soil conditions. Good luck.

The worms will be dead, they cant survive outside the host. The chicken and eggs contain wormer residue, that's why there's a withdrawal period so that there is enough time for the residue to be expelled from their system. Some people eat the eggs after worming. However, if a person has an allergic reaction to the poison.....
I abide by the withdrawal times.

So what is your worming program? What do ya recommend for us northerners? 2 x year?

I worm once a quarter due to our environment...heat, humidity, warm/moist soil conditions. You might only need to worm once every 9-10 months or however you see fit, it depends on your environment.

Valbazen liquid cattle/sheep wormer. Orally, 1/2cc for standard size, 1/4cc for smaller chickens.
Safeguard liquid goat wormer. Orally, 1cc for giants, 3/4cc for large fowl, 1/2cc for standard size, 1/4cc for smaller chickens.
Eprinex for the heck of it occasionally. 1/2cc for large/standard size, 1/4cc for smaller chickens. Eprinex goes on bare skin on the back of the neck.

Thanks,

I have some of the liquid Ivermectin pour on I've used on my silkies for mites. So I was actually worming them at the same time. So do you rotate these? The valbazen is for tapeworms right? Safeguard is fenbedazole right?
I have that for my horses but not the liquid.

Now to just decide when to worm. I think once my pullets start laying and I get a decent size egg for my customers I will worm the big guys and gals.

Valbazen is albendazole, kills all worms including tapeworm. Safeguard is fenbendazole, kills most worms except tapeworms and flukes. You can use safeguard paste on chickens. Dosage is a "pea" size amount for each chicken. I rotate with valbazen, safeguard, occasionally eprinex. I dont use ivermectin pour on anymore. I know you might be familiar with Zimectrin Gold since you have horses. It has praziquantel and ivermectin in it. the praziquantel can take care of tapeworms as well. Dosage for Z-Gold is a "small pea" sized amount for each chicken. Withdrawal periods all remain the same...14 days. Redose again in 10-14 days, same withdrawal time.

Thanks for the info, really appreciate it. So you just grab a chicken and stick it in there mouth? On the back of their tongue or ?? Roundworms are more common then tapeworms in chickens right? I guess it would depend on where you live.

So what would you use on silkies, tiny pea size ?

Thanks
