Do you think this is a decent nest box?

I think it will work but if you live in a cold area the metal will cool down while they are in it.

Metal nests, especially roll outs, in a cold climate could be a concern.

Yeah it gets cold here but not extremely. Hopefully my cozy coop with semi-deep litter and bird body heat will be ok. This nest will be an experiment. If it works it will make my life a little easier. If not I will give em buckets and totes to supplement. We'll see.

Probably colder than here, where it's well below freezing for day/nights on end.

Hope you have good coop ventilation.
Bird keep their body heat contained with their feathers, it will not heat the coop or their brethren.

Hm I don't think Mass is colder than Mich but I don' really know. I definitely have adequate ventilation. A million probs could arise but until they do, I will hope for the best and prepare for the worst. I would imagine those same feathers will keep them warm when they are in the nesting box.

Hopefully moving day will be in about one week. I'll report back with how they are adjusting to the box.
