DO YOU WASH & REFRIGERATE YOUR EGGS?-

Here in NZ, not even store-bought eggs are refrigerated.

I know I've had eggs out unrefrigerated for at least a month with no issues; I do not wash or scratch clean either and eating runny is pretty common in my house.

If they're particularly dirty, I'll wash before opening - but for storage, it's my understanding that an intact bloom is best and sanding can force bacteria into the pores of the shell, so I clean very sparingly.

So then....CAN you vaccinate your chickens against Salmonella?
Salmonella is a fact of life with anything that eats bugs as the bugs are carriers; I keep reptiles and it is recommended that you wash up after handling due to salmonella risks, but I've never had any contamination issues. Salmonella sucks and can be dangerous for elderly, pregnant or small children, but otherwise I feel the warnings tend to be a bit overblown for healthy adults.

Ok, thanks for that...I've had snakes as pets and know to wash hands but...that doesn't answer my question. The video says the Brits vaccinate their birds against salmonella, so I'm still asking - can we in the U.S.A. do that?

I looked up a few sites, and it doesn’t seem we can. I agree with the reasoning, and encourage you to look it up too.

I don't wash unless it is dirty, which is rare, then after wash I refrigerate. This is how I store them until I give away...I like this stand because it has the freshest ones on the top and I choose from the bottom and I add to the top each day it holds 3 dozen!
