Do your chickens talk to you?

Nah, don't worry about it! We have one of our girls in a large dog kennel just outside our basement door and whenever we got out she talks to us and we talk right back to her. If we get too close to the kennel she stops talking to us. Most of the neighbors already know we're a little strange, so it's no big deal! LOL

I talk to the "kids" whenever I go out to the coop. I've started picking them up and at first they were quite upset about it, but now they know it's part of the drill and they are fine. But they all talk to me and I talk right back at'em.

WOW, i am so glad i am not the only crazy nut that holds conversations with my girls and boys. My roo and I will give that screech to each other a lot. He gets that look in his eyes when he cocks his head sideways at me to look up and just screeches like nails on a blackboard!!!! lol... when i bend down, he will jump up on my back walk up to my shoulders and sit down and look at me bewildered. Of course i screech back, give him a bawk bawk and he just settles down and looks like 'humpf'. gotta love the lguy.

My hens and I talk to each other as soon as I enter the coop in the morning and when ever I get home. When I walk down the driveway and yell at them they all come to the gate talking away at me. They just make me smile so much.

My husband was standing behind me the other day while I had Bird on my shoulder talking to him and the hens were giving me their daily update on who did what to whom for the day. I thought he was going to pee his pants listening to them and I. He never really thought that the girls 'talked' to me. Now he knows better!!!!!!!!

He asked me to please tell them not to talk about him when he is around. It makes him nervous and insecure...

Nobody understands till they experience it firsthand! Especially being woken up by roosters in the house. At 4 am!

Today mine weren't as talkative, but instead frisky! I have some new additions and they must seem like golden females to the roo's and some trashy chicks to the hens, it was wwf chicken style (between the jealous hens and the horny men) Every two seconds I saw my black silkie stalking a different hen and then try to surprise her from behind a corner, I dont think he never got one to stay still! haha
So no deep conversations for me today... maybe i'll grab my chihuahua to howl at me for a minute before bed...

i found it funny when my neighbor confessed that while he is in his yard and hears one particular hen-Raven, he starts to 'baaawwk' at her to set her off 'talking'. Raven is always at the side of the pen that i approach from so she's keeping an eye open for me when i come out to sit with or check on them! she is also the first one i hear as i approach the coop in the morning before i open the door to let everyone out for the day!

i have plenty of young birds that have to jump in my lap for a little petting and preening. and i talk to them all the time. one of my sweetest 'talkers' is a young bantam buff cochin called Boof. just before closing the coop up for the night she likes to get as close to my ear as possible and tell me how her day went with everyone!

one of my roos-actually my first one i hatched-is a HUGE chatter-bird! Chickie my bantam polish had been babied since he was hatched as a single chick, and he always has to be the center of my attention when i come to his pen. if i don't give him a lot of attention/affection when i first go in i will get a good nip on the arm and then he acts all apologetic about it and will cuddle, purr and lightly cluck to me about his day of observing the other roos and their girls. occasionally he will give me that 'pterodactyl' screech when i haven't been quick enough to go to his pen but are focused on the others first.

hubby doesn't seem to get the idea of talking with my animals, especially the chickens!

I talk to all my animals, even my geckos!

I think the majority of what my hens are saying though is "mom, can you tell her to hurry up on that nest... I know we have 4... but she's in the best one!" or maybe "she's staring at me!" or most likely "FEED ME MORE!"

I love talking to my chickens

Now that's funny! The neighbor antagonizing the chickens!!!

I have one hen who follows me around when I do chores in the morning, just a cackling. I swear she's gossiping about the other chickens.

Our black cochin hen is also quite a talker too. The other cochins we hardly hear a peep out of.
