Does anyone breed Heritage RIR's?

Does anyone breed Heritage RIR's?Hatchery bred RIR looks nothing like the heritage RIRs and the confirmation or standards of the RIRs are all wrong. They looked like a leghorn body with red feathers LOL! If you want the real thing, stick with true breeders of heritage RIRs!

I have to agree. I've looked at many hatchery RIR's they just don't compare with what we raised when I was a kid. There's a difference.

I will be shipping chicks beginning in April. There are pictures of my birds floating around on threads on BYC. If you want to see some of the pictures I can repost them.

If and when I get them their seperate run I'd have some eggs later in the spring. Right now they're running with my laying flock. I hatched mine from Julie's eggs when she still had them.

There's two or three people in Missouri who show quality standard RIR. Nice dark color. I do not believe they are all out breeders who hatches a lot and sells though. We also have several in the state with nice bantam RIR. I'm especially proud of mine.

I love the look of them as well. In addition to Geared up ( I think his are awesome) I did a lot of research got on the RIR website and made a general nuisance of myself for a while. Here is what I found.

Duane Urch Minnesota 507-451-6782 eggs and chicks

Adrian Rademacher 952-442-4031 Chicks only Minnesota

Greg Chamness 618-922-6003 Illinois chicks for sure not sure I asked him about eggs. The old Mohawk line that Robert Blosl had for some time

All of the above show birds and are well known in the RIR large fowl and bantam community. Not sure you could go wrong with any of the above.

I have some production RIR's now and I like them but I love the look of these mohagany bricks. I believe most of the above sell chicks int he range of 6.00 each. I think Urch told me 2.00 for eggs plus shipping but you will need to check with him. Not sure any of them have a website. I know Urch told me his first hatch was spoken for and was into his second one with the list.

Cant wait. These breeders are hard to find if you dont know where to look. All have been mentioned in the poultry press in the last two issues.

I hatched out three female exhibition RIR's this past year and am in LOVE with them. They are like puppies they are so friendly, I find that odd for large fowl. Very deep dark red color. I am planning on borrowing a rooster this year from a friend who I got these eggs from. I might just have to start raising them all the time though!

I own heritage RIRs. I have a flock of 10 hens, 4 being rose combs, and just re-homed my rooster, sadly. My eggs will be fertile for probably the next 2 weeks. My stock is from Gordie Sternweis, Duane Urch, and BamaChicken (Joel Gilman).

Some pics from the summer when they were still quite young and little (they're much fuller now):
