I raise my baby chicks in the house until the have a good amount of feather on them. Does anyone else here raise babies in the house?

i just had my 1st hatch last month. and have 24 more eggs in bator. I will not due it in the winter again. It is stinky and lots of dust and mess. I was warned on here and did not listen. From now on I will wait till warmer weather so they can be in the shed instead of in my house. Just my opionion.

I have seen alot of warnings on here too about the dust. I imagine the smell can be kept down by changing out the litter frequently, but who knows. I bought some "training mats" for puppies that i will put down over the pine shavings so it is easy to just toss out and put another one in. Not sure if that will work or not, but I'm going to give it a shot.

My babies are due to arrive sometime between tomorrow and tues. This will be my first time doing this in the house.

I ALWAYS raise them in the house until the weather warms up. We keep the newspaper changed so the smell stays down.

As much As I determine not to yes.

I do have plans to stop. We have a room off the garage that is now a chicken house instead of a gym. They're only there until i can move them to the coop. In the future when I can get some electric out there to put in a heater they will go from the incubator to the back room.

I keep the corn cob bedding changed out and scoop out poo several times a day. Not to smelly.
I had everything set up out it the workshop to keep them there since Mountainman made it clear not to keep them in the house.
When we picked them up at the post office Mountainman said ah they are so little I think they can stay in the house.

Yep, they first start out in the house for about a month, or until most their baby fuzz is gone. Then they go to the garage, and then when I'm ready

they go out to the coop. When the shed.... or loose all the baby fuzz it does make a mess! But that is what the vaccuum and broom are for right?!

I keep them in the house for the first few weeks until they no longer need a heat lamp, then they go outside. This year however, my DH is going to build me a brooder box in the coop which is heated so I can get them outside sooner. I have a daughter with asthma but it doesnt seem to bother her. We also have parrots and they produce lots of dander too.
