Does anyone else get annoyed by this?

I'm sure it doesn't bother us "guys". However instead of getting steamed, why not brainstorm ways to educate your brothers or change their point of view. Just remember you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

As for driving? One thing that I noticed is that when I turn on my signal to change lanes the car behind speeds up rather than slowing down to let me in and most of the time the driver is a woman. Even my wife agrees but she does it too. Over generalizing works both ways such as "men never ask for directions". Of course I'm married so I don't have to ask, I get told where to go pretty often.

Why not open a womans owned and operated repair shop. Then you can help keep your sisters from getting scammed.

You can do it, I have faith in you.

Heck no, it doesnt bother me. Id like nothing more than a lady who could change MY oil for once.
(wait - that might not sound right...)

I was not allowed to get behind the wheel of our family car until I could change a tire, check and fill fluids and name major engine parts.

And it was my mom who taught me.

Nope....doesn't bother me in the least. I have nothing to prove to anyone. I lived alone for over 25 years, owned my own little mini-farm...I am vary adept to fixing, replacing and destoying just about anything...BUT, now that I am married to the greatest man on earth....I REALLY appreciate the help.
My DH knows I can do it, but just because I can, does not mean I have to!!

By the way....DH, cooks and cleans just as much as I do. Since we both work different schedules, we both end up doing whatever is left over!

Men are great.....use them to your advantage ladies.....who cares if they try to take all the glory, as long as you get the results!

I wish everyone taught their kids like this.

Perhaps changing a tire should be part of the driving test to get your license.

I would totally vote for this!! I've had to do that WAY more than I've had to parallel park.

Haven't read the whole thread, but I too am a woman who knows a lot about cars, and the reaction from the local guys I find is two-fold.

A typical scenario: Guy working on car, or a couple guys discussing a car problem. I make some suggestion or question ie; they're discussing problems with their 4 wheel drive and I might say "sounds like the transfer case to me...." etc.

Reaction #1: Shock. They just stare at me.

Reaction #2: They get turned on and take sudden interest that I know what I'm talking about.

Negative Reaction: Their wives, who are usually standing by gossiping or talking about their next candle party, who discover their husbands' sudden interest in me and start giving me the "evil wife glare" and tell their husbands it's time to go.

I hate to stereo type, but I think part of the problem is that I'm a feminine looking, reasonably attractive woman. This always throws men off. I don't take offense though, I actually get a kick out of doing that in mixed crowds.

The only time I've had guys treat me like an idiot is BEFORE I speak. They might start explaining something to me as though I am a simpleton, and then I join in the discussion and they shut up real quick.

I love hanging out with guys in garages. I wish the local wives would realize it's not their husband I'm into, it's the CARS.

Many years back, I dated a petite blonde who was a Semi-Truck driver for Safeway. She took a great deal of PRIDE in her independence and "women's-rights attitude"...which was fine with me.

She and a girlfriend of hers went shopping in a City about 50 miles away and they had a flat-tire on her Toyota Corolla on the way home. She got out and put on the "donut" spare and drove on home.

The next day she asked me to fix the tire. (I had a air/hydraulic tire machine at home.) I took her tire to my house, fixed it and came back and put it on her car. Then I went inside to visit and have a beer.

She bragged about how she had changed the flat along the Interstate...not needing any "male help". I really didn't mind her attitude about it....but I couldn't resist mentioning to her that she had put the "donut" spare on BACKWARDS. (If it had been a "full-sized" spare...it would have rubbed the fender when she drove home.)

But, she did know a LOT MORE about Arabian Horses than I did.

Ha-Ha !!!
