Does anyone else not like silkies?

Word. I will never understand these repetitive, negative threads that are solely about "bashing" a certain breed. It just seems incredibly lame to start a whole thread to encourage people to bash a certain breed.

They are very cute. And look like the show poodle of the chicken world. I have two. Pet quality. And that's what they are. Pets. But other than a pet, I don't know what good they are in terms of "chicken". Meat or egg, they're not really good at either. So if you're into pet chickens, these would be a great fit. And for that reason, I do like them. A certain cuteness factor.

I keep thinking I've had the wrong ones - I've had two black ones and two buffs. Each time, someone asked if they were for sale and I said sure. I just haven't managed to develop a commitment to them. That said, I haven't given up, as they are entertaining. I'm hoping brooding my own will make the difference. *shrug*

i love my silkies here we seem to be getting more eggs from my silkies then we are from the sussex, buff orpington and barred rocks.

The pet quality silkies I briefly owned had better personalities that the show quality ones. I had a splash hatchery roo once and he did NOT like being held, but had a rooster black silkie with nada for a crest and he was great, along with the partridge silkies I briefly had. But they just couldn't compare to my d'uccles who are hardier, sweeter, lay regularly, and also go broody on a frequent basis. Plus, crested chickens take more care in the winter, I've noticed.
