Does anyone have any pics of a dog crate converted into a brooder?

I thought about hardware cloth, but between the price and the difficulty of working with it, I went with aluminum window screening instead. Much easier to work with, and it's $6/roll

It's not in my picture, but we used black plastic 1/2" hardware cloth..it was easier to use than the real stuff and is cheaper. For us, it is only to keep out curious paws or escapee chicks (which we have had no issue with since we also put up cardboard. Easy to cut and handle, we used small zip ties to fasten to the crate.

Do the chicks ever 'investigate' the lamp and get burnt?

They didn't until they started trying to fly around. Then we moved it to the outside of the kenel. Also it was a super low watt bulb. Our heat bulb and blown and we had I think it was a 40wt bulb or something close to that, so it wasn't as hot as a bigger heat bulb would be.

I have the wire dog crate and like some of the others put a second floor in it. I put a box full of sand up there to encourage them to go "upstairs". They love taking their sand baths and it gives them more room until I heal up enough to build the chicken coop. I broke my collar bone 3 days after getting them and haven't been able to get the coop built.
