Does Anyone Have Hermit Crabs?

Never heard of crayfish as pets!
When we caught them in the crick Mom always made us leave them there.

I used to have them to i'd always get some when i was at the beach i'd like to get them again so was actually thinking about them for a couple of weeks now

My daughter really wants hermit crabs. Her best friend got some last Dec and she loves those. I thought they stunk? No?

I also think they make a good beginner pet, for responsibilities. They definitely respond when you talk to them, you can take them out to play with, feed them treats like apple bits. They're cool!!

My mom didn't want us to get them, originally. Then we caught her feeding them special treats. She even bought them organic peanut butter, in the 70's!! I'm still amazed they had that stuff back then. And that she was worried about the crabs not getting additives but had no such concerns for us kids!!

You might get attached to them yourself...
And buy them weird treats.

My sisters have them, they're OK pets. You can't interact with them that much.

When you talk to them they wiggle their antenna at you. Mine used to wake up as soon as they heard my voice and come out to see me.
You can get them cool sticks and rocks to climb over, and let them climb all over you, too. My sis, bro and I used to race ours, too. Put them in the center of a circle and see who could cross the line out of the circle first.

Granted, we did all this before there were Gameboys, Nintendo, computers, and 500 channels of cartoons...

When I was VERY little, I found a hermit crab that had wandered into the house. Doing what little babies do I put it in my mouth. It clamped on tight and wouldn't let go. I guess they are the pitbulls of the crab world. It really shouldn't be a problem for any child old enough to ask for one.

We used to catch "crawdaddies" in the creeks and keep them as pets- just for a couple days and then return them. It wasn't until I was much older that I discovered just how tasty my little frieds were.

When they get to know you they don't pinch unless they think they're going to fall or get squished. Wild ones can pinch HARD!
