Hi guys...I have decided on my order for the year (not thae I can place it right now...still waiting on the housing situation) BUT I wanted to see first if any of you show these breeds so that I might get some good stock from you guys, rather than just hatchery stock (although i might get both.) If you do, I am really only interested in live birds, not eggs.
TIA!
Kristi
Standards:
Barred Ply. Rocks
Light Brahmas
Dark Brahmas
Barnevelders
Araucanas/Americauans (I have one show breeder's info, but am interested in more)
Bantams:
Self Blue Silkies
(I also have interest in Black tailed White Japs and Silver Sebrights, but don't HAVE to have those this year)

I show a few barred rocks, but mostly bantams now. In a little bit, if you'd be interested in getting them shipped, I could send you some bantam barred rock babies. They are from great show lines and have all the personality/ spunk of the larger birds but about 1/3 of the size!

Give it a little time and I am sure you can find them all from breeders on here. Some only check in once or twice a week, unlike many of us BYC addicts here.

Rocks, Brahma, and Araucana I could help with if we weren't in different geographic locations. I would avoid Araucana and Ameraucana from the hatcheries at all costs. It would take years of selective breeding to get rid of the typical outcross problems.

I showed Barred Rocks. The judge obliterated me, though. The "barring" we see in our rocks, is actually "cuckoo". I went to a poultry show and saw some bantams which were properly barred. It's a very distinct pattern.

So, anyway, my recommendation would be to start with self colored breeds. That takes one part out of the equation so you can focus on the body conformation.

Yea, I have heard that the bantam BRs are far better in coloration than the standards, so I might be interested in them. If I did that I'd likely get those for show & some hatchery standards so that the hatchery birds can meet my 'supply & demand' for birds around here.
Thanks,
Kristi
