Does anyone use dogs to hunt anymore?

Seems like the dogs should trade places?

Nope, they all love their jobs and are good at them for different reasons

Are they really called coyote hounds or are you pulling our leg.. legs?

yes, they are called coyote hounds..and each one looks different, around here a good hound will bring good money, but only if they dont run deer..they are a mix of many different breeds bred and trained to run coyotes, last year my nephew took 22 coyotes,he puts a GPS traker collar on the hounds so they can tell which way they are headed and "cut them off at the pass"..I rarely see anyone hunting around here without a dog,be it upland game or waterfowl or coyotes..

That's a term used for hounds used to hunt coyotes it's not the name of a breed...

Gotcha,

I was asking since we currently have 3 packs around my home, 24 coyotes in all. Mostly the neighbors choco lab chases them off , but recently my neighbors jack russel took on a smaller pack. He lost his tail but left 3 dead in the front yard

the only "technical" name i've heard for them is "american stag hounds". they're just called coyote hounds or runnin dogs by anyone who has them. lots of stuff mixed together all the reach one end: a fast running sight hound that can take down a mature coyote either by itself or with a pack.

Im actually currently looking for a new dog, we had to put down our 12 and our 8 y/o dogs down in july

For the people that own one:
Do they shed much, compared more to a saint bernard or a schnauzer?

Exercise will not be a problem thanks to the amount of property i am on, but after training , when they are in the field, do they need between 3 and 4 hours or 30 min and 2 hours a day?

Are they ok family dogs as well, or will they go after small pets? ( i have ducks, small dogs, rats, and hamsters)

Im asking out of curiosity, since ive heard of ppl training dogs to go specifically for coyotes but ive never actually thought of it as a dog profession. I havent found any specific breed to go for but i was looking for a mix anyway since they most times turn out the best.

I miss coon hunting but I sure don't miss stitching them up after they ran into bears in the corn here.
