One of the eggs under my mama duck was damaged, looks like she tried to bust him out. A bit of yolk looked like it was sticking out through the membrane. I removed the egg from the nest and he's wrapped in a wet towel under a heat lamp. The membrane was solid white. I cut a small hole in it for his beak. There is blood. He is opening his beak a little and wiggling a little when I talk to him.

I'm not trying to help it out, just popped a bill hole because of how dry the membrane was I didn't want him to die. I don't know what day. They were under one mama and she abandoned them and another took over. When I candle based upon the candle chart I would say they were due to hatch. She had 9 and three when I candle have bills in the air sac already. I'll try lubing the membrane and removing the towel. I don't have an incubator so he's in a shoe box with the towel and a heat lamp. Has anyone had something like this hatch?

Also I did the bill hole because he was struggling up against the membrane, when I popped the hole he immediately popped his bill out and looked like he was gasping for air

You did just fine! :)

Sounds like he is close, that's good... white and wrinkled membrane is not a dry membrane, brownish color is drying, but you want to lube it now since it's not under mama or in an incubator it will start drying out... and then wait, lol...

Yes, someone just hatched one yesterday in fact! Abandoned by the mama duck, he used a heating pad and and even down his pants to keep and egg warm til the duckling hatched, lol... here...

Ah Ok! A friend whose done hatches said white was dry and advised helping him. I originally was gonna leave him under mama but she Saud to help. And the shell is so broken I was afraid she would just crush him. Does it matter that the yolk was coming out a bit? I couldn't imagine carrying a duck in my pants lol if I can borrow an incubator should I put him in it?
