Does the brown membrane look ok?

Pippin is doing so good! He is eating some now. And cleaning himself off. He is completely dry now and loves his turkey friend. 🥰

How is your cute Pippin doing by now?
Pippin is doing great!!! I’ll post a pic of him in just a little while. He is very active and curious about everything. My second duck just hatched right about 24 hrs after the external pip(a lot faster than pippin). However this duck is not acting quite the same. Much more lethargic. It’s peeping and stuff but mostly just wants to sleep. Pippin was walking right away. Also it looks like it has already pooped some black poop? This normal? I’m sure not all ducks are the same right?

Here is a picture of Pips. He wants to be held all the time but doesn’t cry as long as he can see you. ❤️

Hatching is very strenuous business and often the hatchlings need up to 24 hours to recover. And yes, they can poop really soon and some even poop when still inside the egg. Nothing to worry about.

Congratulations on your second duckling! :woot So cute! :love

Thank you!! I will update on it shortly. This one shall be called Puddles! 🤣 also maybe yiu can tell me if he may be a different breed of duck… Pippin is a Rouen. I thought Mallard but now I’m pretty sure Rouen now that I have take a good look at the mama duck. Back story… I found these duck eggs in the parking lot at work (it’s next to a creek and there are ducks around). All the ducks I have seen look like Mallard/Rouen. But Puddles is all brown so I’m thinking he may be a different kind. Will post a pic of him soon.

If this is a ducking which it appears to be to me, they can take up to 40hrs to completely hatch… you shouldn’t need to help untill 48hrs and no progress unless you can see obvious signs of distress…. I’m talking from experience…

Thank you. However both of my ducklings have now hatched on their own 😃

Alright here is a photo of Pippin and also a photo of Pippin and Puddles together. Puddles pooped again and it looked a little runny this time. He’s still pretty tired but still doing pretty good!
