Could very well be the photo lighting, which is why I said if you see him in person to check out if he has base color leakage/bleed-through.

Here is a photo of the black Ameraucana rooster I owned with the silver & gold coming through. You can see he was a beautiful specimen otherwise.

yeah i asked mine is totally black same with the hen and i believe there is no leakage in the feathers is that when the feathers almost look like wet paints and make it look like the feathers are mixing but that photo is not the greatest even she said it was a bad photo so I'm gonna get more
