She explained to me that there was NO way her dog was on my property much less after my chickens and that she was going to sue me AND have me arrested for animal cruelty.

Well, of course. You often jump out of bed from a dead sleep, grab a gun and run down the street to go dog-hunting.

Cyn, Yes of course I do...don't you?

I am telling ya Cyn...I am getting reaaaaallllly tired of stupidity. There must be some way we can herd all the complete idiots up, put them in one location and just give them their own state with a reaaaallllly high wall around it. That way when and if we feel the need to partake in some stupidity we may go there and visit.

Well, I think most of them are already in Ga, LOL. Some man was tried in court here for shooting a dog on his property for going after his calves...and that is only a short time after the head of the County Commission told the citizens to shoot all strays because AC didn't have time or resources to round them up.

Oh good grief. how ridiculous is that to waste time and money to try someone for something so silly.

I like oregon's law...really I do. They protect me and my pets.

609.125. "Livestock" defined

As used in ORS 609.135 to 609.190, "livestock" means ratites, psittacines, horses, mules, jackasses, cattle, llamas, alpacas, sheep, goats, swine, domesticated fowl and any fur-bearing animal bred and maintained commercially or otherwise, within pens, cages and hutches.

The owners of dogs jointly or severally liable under this section have a right of contribution among themselves. The right exists only in favor of an owner who has paid more than the pro rata share of the owner, determined by dividing the total damage by the number of dogs involved, of the common liability, and the total recovery of the owner is limited to the amount paid by the owner in excess of the pro rata share of the owner.

(3) An action brought under this section may be tried as an action at law in any court of competent jurisdiction.

(4) As used in this section:

(a) "Owner" means the head of the family of the home where the dog is cared for at the time of the damage.

(b) "Head of the family" means any person who has charge or manages the affairs of a collective body of persons residing together, the relations between whom are of a permanent and domestic character.

609.150. Destruction of dog that harms or chases livestock, exemptions

(1) Except as provided in subsection (3) of this section, any dog, whether licensed or not, which, while off the premises owned or under control of its owner, kills, wounds, or injures any livestock not belonging to the master of such dog, is a public nuisance and may be killed immediately by any person. However, nothing in this section applies to any dog acting under the direction of its master, or the agents or employees of such master.

(2) If any dog, not under the control of its owner or keeper, is found chasing or feeding upon the warm carcass of livestock not the property of such owner or keeper it shall be deemed, prima facie, as engaged in killing, wounding or injuring livestock.

(3) No person shall kill any dog for killing, wounding, injuring or chasing chickens upon a public place, highway or within the corporate limits of any city.

I am way outside the city limits so bye bye doggie.

OMG what idiots indeed. Good grief dogs could run calves to death. Makes ya wonder doesn't it?

I had the neighbor's Bull/English Mastiff cross get to my hens. I didn't have to kill the dog as she obeyed my commands. But I would have if she hadn't stopped working over my hens. Fortunately I was at home and she laid down on command as I came running. Some hens were missing feathers but nobody was seriously wounded. My neighbor was really good about it. She saw her dog with all the feather hanging from it's mouth and immediately grabbed her checkbook and asked what she owed me for the chickens. We then proceeded to walk her fence line to figure out where the dog got out. While doing that I praised the other dog for being too big and dumb to figure out how to escape.

I feel sorry for you as I know how worked up this made me and everything went well in my case.

thats so funny, Last night I watched the movie Idiocity, I think, with Luke Wilson. Thats exactly it, in 500 years the human race degrades to a bunch of idiots.

Glad to hear the husband understood, thats rare.

Hay now i make my own dog treats and they taste better than any store bought junk. My cat treats really taste good too. Had a good judges , hubby, kids and the best was daughters boyfriends parents. Thought they were cookies for them and asked for the recipe. After I was done llaughing gave them the recipe. You need to stop feeling guilty about what you had to do. You did what had to be done and any of us would have done the same. You are in the right no matter what. Job well done, HATS OFF TO YOU!! They now make their own dog treats.
