Poor birds

As others said, a warm quiet stress free place to see if he can possibly pull through. If he is comforted by your voice, stay with him and keep comforting him with your words, softly and calmly.

Electroltyes for shock.

Treat injuries once he has calmed down.

I had a hen get attacked by an irresponsible neighbor's dog - she started out acting this way but I held her and kept talking to her gently and clamly till she came around and acted more alert. This took well over an hour. I brought her roo friend to her and this helped both of them. Then I got her to the vet.

How's your rooster? darn dog...I have one good dog and one chicken chaser...it is a tough battle! I have so many gates that we can't even walk through the yard anymore.
I hope that you can pull him through. You should definitely keep him warm and quiet and if he's inside...away from the dog so he isn't nervous. My hen that I was treating for injuries got stressed, chilly and shivering one night and I put a few towels under her and then one over her and she warmed right up. Maybe put a drop of water on your fingertip and try and get him to take in some fluids. I always wet my crumbles to entice them to eat. Good luck.

I am so surprised! I really thought he was gonna die for sure (his name is Little Peck). I got him some heat through a lamp and then just covered him up and he is a whole lot better. I even just got him to eat from my hand. I fixed him a bed with some straw and am hoping he continues to get better. He still seems so nervous, not that I can blame him. I wander how long we're lookin at keeping him in the house. I sure hope he fully recovers. I'm new at this chicken business and this has just about killed me. The dog killed Lollipop, my cute little white pullet. She was a really nice and tame bird. We only had 4 to start with so this has hit us hard. We are putting locks on the coop tomorrow to prevent this from ever happening again. I never thought I would get so attached to my chickens but I cried and cried today. Anyways, hopefully Little Peck will make it through. Thanks everyone for the advise.

I'm glad he seems to be on the mend. Sometimes they just get a little shocky from the experience. Check him over carefully to make sure there aren't any wounds. Puncture wounds especially are hard to see. When he seems to get his spunk back, he can go back with his ladies, as long as there's no wounds.

Sorry about Lollipop

Well I thought that there weren't any wounds but I did find some when I looked again. They don't seem bad and they aren't bleeding. It's really weird, you can tell that they are blood red but at the same time they look like they aren't open. How big of a deal is that? Should I do anything to them? I hate to bother the little guy anymore.

They sound like little blood blisters...I would leave them alone they will heal...don't poke or pop them. Also, if he has any broken skin any where, use saline solution (like for contacts) and just rinse any wound out really well. Otherwise I think he's going to be okay if he pulled out of the shock...good sign. I am so sorry about your little white pullet. My chicken chaser got one of my chickens when I first got him. As far as chickens go, they can be pretty tough, I just fixed up my hen that had been attacked by a hawk and I thought she was a goner for sure...she's doing great, it's been about 2 weeks.
I posted some really gross pics of her wound because I was so concerned about it...threehorses was very helpful in guiding me through fixing her up.

Check to see if you can hear him wheezing, if he has puncture wounds to his back he may have bled into his lungs. If he is capable of eating and drinking give him polyvisol and vit E to boost his system.

Sorry about your little girl. These silly, feathered velocoraptors have a way to make their way into our hearts. I am glad Little Peck is doing better. It might take a bit to de-stress him, not so bad having a chicken in your house....

Our rooster comes to the back door every morning to beg for bread cubes and come in to crow.

Thanks for the advise and kind words. This is the only place where people understand. Other people are acting like this is no big deal like, "it's just a chicken". I feel the same for my chickens as I do my dogs or cat. They are just as much my pets. So thanks everyone for the help.

You're welcome...a lot of us chicken nuts feel the same way as you! I can't even eat mean roosters!
Hope Little Peck has a full recovery. Don't feel silly for grieving over your hen, they all have their own personalities and are very enjoyable little creatures.
