Great news about Little Peck! Good job nursing him back, he was definitely in shock and you nursed him back to health.
I know about the locks...I have double gates everywhere just to be safe. I adopted a "city" dog and the chickens are just too hard to resist. My other dog helps me herd them in and out, wish all dogs could be as good a chicken herder as she!

What kind of dog is she? I really wanna get a dog that would protect and herd like yours. Is there any particular breed?

Actually I just sent in her DNA to get her breed tested....I will let you know when it gets here. It was suppose to be here already.

Here she is...Teva...we're thinking German Shepherd Airdale. She will actually nudge the chickens out of the barn with her nose if they're lagging behind!

Teva is very unusual I love those "kind". We had a dog that we named Magnum that looked very much like her only all black he was a constant companion, gone now for 5 yrs and I still miss him very much.

Thanks...we personally think Teva is the cutest dog ever...but some people think she's a "he" because of all the scruffy fur.
She's so helpful around the house. She breaks up cat fights, herds the chickens for me, and helps me balance out the dog I adopted in April. She's definitely my best friend!

Ok, here the litte guy is after a week of recovery he is doing quite well. He is starting to get a burnt orange color in his hackle, on his head and under his wings. I hope it starts to show, its really pretty. I just put a post to see if anyone could tell me a breed.

Maybe a Polish mix?
I have a buff Polish mix hen who looks a lot like him.
He is really cute! Glad he is feeling better, poor guy.
He definitely looks Polish! Look at the really round eyes.
And the "head gear"

I got Teva's Ancestry Analysis yesterday...she's a true mutt!
10-19% of her DNA are from each of the following breeds:
Saluki
Rottweiller
Poodle
Springer Spaniel
Doberman
Beagle
less than 10% is
Chinese Shar-Pei

We definitely see the Saluki. They are not a common breed, but if you look at pics of them she has a lot of their characteristics both physically and personality.

It's pretty interesting and entertaining to say the least!
Put those breeds together and you have the perfect chicken herder...
