I have a 9 month old buff Orpington and she was Attacked by neighbors dog.
When I got to her she was standing in a frozen position. Shocked I’m sure
I examined her and found no open wounds, no bleeding. Nut this happened yesterday around 3pm.
She is not eating, standing in one spot, was drinking yesterday but not as much today. I have her inside in a large dog cage with food and water. She is in a quite area covered up in my dining room.
I haven’t a clue what to do.. you can tell she is struggling tonight. She was laying down this morning, but not since then.
Something is wrong with her femur or upper leg. I’m guessing. I am no expert on chickens. She showed up at my place 9 months ago and I have kept her as my pet. I hate to see her suffer, I love this silly chicken and can anyone give me some advice?
If there is hope for her or not. I live on limited income and just cannot afford a vet fee. If I have to end her life, I will do it myself.
Just the thought breaks my heart. I need advice and a miracle. Thank you all very much!

She can live, if whole inside. She could have been stomped on, or mouth mauled that has injured her insides, monitor any poops. I own two almost full grown bantams, both left side crippled, they r house chickens. Cream Puff seems to have an old injury to the ligimant, Persia has a hip joint displaced about 1/2". They do well, they had a banty roo, the Marek's got him. I don't know how they got that way, they were given to me.
Keep her quiet, hydrated, offer small amounts of wetted feed, or a scrambled egg. Examine her after a day or so,To determine what could be wrong, look up chicken anatomy. That's about as far as I can take you.

She probably has at least some swelling and pain. Is she breathing ok? If she was clamped down on by the dog she could sustain damage to air sacs as well as injuries to muscles, joints and ligaments/tendons. She may ultimately be crippled if she survives and will likey cease laying at least for awhile.
Can you give her a tiny bit of aspirin or tylenol and report back how she's doing?

I'm thinking about internal injuries. Not really physical trauma, But Emotional trauma... Oh my ... If done the same to me... I would be really shocked...

She's probably rightfully in shock. Posting pics or even a short video of her behavior would be helpful.
Also, does her poo look normal? If it's been a while since she's eaten or drank anything you're going to want to give her some electrolytes. Clear pedialyte or poultry electrolytes packs.

Hope she will be all right again in a week or so. Imo: Often the best thing to do is to take care, wait and see.
Just provide food, water, a nice place to rest and keep an eye on her. If she is getting in more and more pain you can end her misery. But if there is no internal harm and its mainly fear why she is so numb, she probably will improve from day to day and will recover within a week or two.

Do you have no other chickens?

I assume that you don’t have other chickens? Can you see any swelling or green bruising on the entire leg? Is she limping? If you do have others, she might be more comfortable in a dog crate with food and water inside your coop. But if she is the only chicken, I would keep her in, and several times a day, offer her just small bits of scrambled egg, wet chicken feed, canned cat food, or canned tuna. I like to offer those up to the beak in a small bowl and have plenty of clean water. She could have an 81 mg or 1/4 of a 325 mg aspirin twice a day for pain if she is sore. If you have any pictures of her to share, that would be good.

Thank you so much, she is walking ok now, she is sore I can tell. She was hungry this morning and tried to eat her regular food. I have a scrambled egg and tuna for her. I have put her back outside to get some sun, but I’m going to go get her and bring her in to try different foods. She has water all the time.
I will keep updated and get a picture of her to post later.
Thank you for your wisdom!

Thank you for your reply and great advice!
I just brought her back inside and scrambled her an egg. She ate about 2 bites. But she is showing signs of hunger, just slow going. I put pedalite in her water, she hasn’t drank any yet.
But she looks and acts better today. She isn’t limping, but still favors that foot.but she walks on it.
I didn’t realize you could give chicken aspirin. I have tuna as well that I will present to her later.
Thank you so much for your wisdom and advice.
Let me see if I can post her photo. My internet is slow as Christmas. But I will try. God bless!
