Dog attacked my roo need advise ASAP!!!!!!!!

When a chicken has a near-death experience he will go hole up in a secluded place for a day or 2. I don't mess with him and he'll just sit there in a trance-like state without moving, eating, or anything. After a day or 2 he'll shake his head and go "Ba-Gurk" and get up and run out into the yard and start doing normal chicken things again.
As long as your rooster doesn't have any internal injuries he'll be fine. I wouldn't use a heat lamp being he has naked skin, you might burn him. It's not necessary to mess with him every 30 minutes, that will only put further stress on him.

When I went to adjust him an hour ago he positioned himself upright can barely pick head up and has made a few attempts to stand slow progress is still progress

Thanks chickenlegs13 that is very encouraging to hear that describes him perfectly in a trance I had already taken the lamp back and uncovered him my bathroom stays pretty warm I would love to hear a crow from him in a day or so even from the next room at his norm 4 am would have me jumping for joy!!!!! If he does survive this does anyone know how long its going to take for him to get his feathers back or if he will at all He is a cochin top hat mix I believe and I strongly believe him having so many feathers is what saved him

Usually it takes a while for them to get their courage up enough to start crowing again. His feathers will start growing back in a week or 2, and in a month-6 weeks he'll be fully refeathered. If you can dose him up with some high protein feed or snacks that will also help him refeather quicker.
Keep us posted.

Thank goodness I wouldn't put a featherless bird out of the house so that's WONDERFUL TO HEAR i will update any progress or regression

if he isnt dead yet there probably no internal damage unless his legs or wings dont work and that can be fixed.

well heres a good one. i had some chicks hatch out 2 months or more ago and one was crippled severely, i started with shoes till i got his feet turned right and then his toes were curled really bad so i focused on them with everything i could find and was recommended like pipe cleaners ect... after all this time he was not healed and as he grew he started to have a hard time with balance and his leg joint was giving on him. so after a hard look i decided to cull this bird i had worked so hard on. now, i usually hold the chick in my hands until it goes to sleep and then use my tree pruner . this time, and i havent done this but a couple times, the pruner twisted and only injured the chick but i dropped it, it went running down into the woods and i had to chase it down , catch it with a net and finish the job. i was sick for a week.so much for a peaceful end. it was terrible and i hope i never have to do it again. so, like i said , we all have those days. btw, i think its awesome to have someone to talk chicken with too!!

I know its part of raising any type of animal there are times that an animal needs to be put out of its misery I just really could never do it even though I know in certain situations its the right thing to do its just always in my mind the what if ....I couldn't imagine how heartbreaking it was for you to go through that I'm sorry
