They need regular dental care. Many people neglect that until the dog can't eat. I get my dogs in as often as they need it to help prolong their lives and keep them healthy. I learned that after my one Aussie was having failing kidney readings on her blood tests. After a dental everything returned to normal, and my dog was like a puppy again. I say if you see tartar, than there tons of stuff you aren't seeing under those gums.
Oh wow that’s amazing!! I honestly never really thought of it with bigger dogs. but I think now I will keep that in mind and pay for it aha is it like every year or?

I haven’t really looked into them too much but maybe I will haha didn’t realize there was a short coated version!!

And yeah big dogs definitely have a lot of challenges!! Haha we had a Lab/Great Pyrenees mix who was like 140 pounds haha he was a beast but so sweet but definitely a lot of drool and fur, food, poop, etc lol

And OMG that is hilarious :lau :gig :lau
So you know what it’s like when you turn off the TV, and guests see congealed strings of drool, and your like, yeah he musta shook his head in front of the tv, I was of course watching the tv while I was cleaning, so it wasn’t visible until I turned it off.

:lau oh yes! Drool everywhere! Especially on window sills or the car dashboard/windows where he looked out lol or the couch where he laid a lot. Nose prints on the doors and windows lol and water everywhere when he drank :lau

Depending on the dog most are good up until 5-6 years of age, than I start keeping an eye on their teeth. Each one is different. Some I do once in their lives, and they are good, and others need it yearly. I teach all my pups to tolerate me looking in their mouths. I should probably brush but I haven't had the patience for that yet, but it's always in my mind to try it and see if it helps.

I bought a scaler with the idea of doing it myself, but I read that just leaves all the nasty stuff under the gum line, so I stopped using it.

This is very helpful! Thanks! And sorry about your dog. :(
He was one month shy of 10 when he passed, and that’s actually pretty old for a bulldog. My pug is 13and 1/2 which is incredibly old for a pug. We always wish for more time, but i realize we were fortunate. I know people who had bulldogs pass at 2 years old from congenital issues.

I literally have said the same words about brushing haha, I really should, I have the necessary supplies for it, but I haven’t done it, but it’s always in my mind.

That’s very good to know!! Thank you!! Very interesting. I think if/when I ever get another one I am gonna start brushing their teeth haha I have the stuff already. I’ve been supposed to brush the cat’s but have only done it a few times.

Oh wow those definitely are nice lives! It is definitely sad though. We had to put ours down at 6 1/2. :( he had been declining for like a year and a half too. We’re pretty sure he had MMM but he also had bad hips and an old injury. But the MMMis what did him in.

Oh wow that’s really rare, I’ve heard people talk about it in some of the common large breed dogs, bullies, GSDs, Goldens, but never knew one to actually have it. That’s a really bad beat in poker terms.
