Depends on state law definition. In Arizona anything that discharges a projectile via gunpowder, compressed air, etc. IS a firearm. But I do agree with your point of asking them for the specific ordinance. In general city or county ordinances do not overrule state laws, and there is a state law (as I quoted) that allows a dog harming poultry (et.al.) to be killed.
I wanted to thank you. The law that you linked me two was only passed into finality this past January (as written) and the sheriff I talked to wasn't aware of it. Now I know I have the option-- not that I ever want to.
Also, in regards to pellet guns, they are classified as firearms where I am as of 2010 (not that I'd discharge one directly at anything much bigger than a squirrel).
