dog pee pads??? Aspen chips???

I just use normal tsc wood chips and all my chicks did fine

I did the TSC flake shavings and all of mine are fine at 3 weeks. I am intrigued by the posts about less smell with wood pellets...

I use rice hulls. More absorbent and no oils, no smells. Also makes great mulch for the garden so I use it in the coop, too.

I used the pee pads or incontinence pads, whichever I could lay my hands on more easily, and layered recycled paper bedding over it. The pads were great. They absorbed excess moisture and made brooder cleanup a breeze. When things got nasty, I just rolled up the soiled bedding in the pad like a giant burrito and chucked the whole mess.

I've never heard of rice hulls, I'll have to look them up! learn something new here alot!! thanks

I wouldn't use the dog pee pads because the "attractant" on them is ammonia. Stick your nose on them, yuck! It may be mild, but the chicks are right on top of it. They sell the same things w/o the ammonia in people stores as disposable incontinence pads. Cheaper too.
