I have one dog currently, and two cats. I have fostered a LOT in the past and I spay and neuter all my dogs/cats. I focus on pit bull rescue, and am absolutely for spaying and neutering bully breeds. Even if they are papered. Unless the dog has done WONDERS in the show ring, it should not be bred.
I came across a black lab that had been dumped, or lost, and man he was BEAUTIFUL. Textbook Lab. One of the best looking dogs I have EVER seen, and after searching for his owner, I had him neutered and sent to a new home with my aunt. I've fostered too many puppies to not alter my animals.
Pit Bull rescues here in CA do NOT take owner surrender. By any means. That should tell us something about the gross overpopulation of this breed. Rescues only take Pit Bulls on a DEATH row basis, IF then. Like I said above, unless the dog is amazing in the show ring (not JUST been shown, but WON) it should be altered.
Plus, for health reasons. Unaltered dogs are prone to all kinds of issues, usually with reproductive organs. Same goes for cats. Both my male cats are neutered, and were neutered at 5 months BEFORE they were let outside.
It is hard that now the SPCA has to spay 8 week old puppies, because people cannot get it together enough to fix them at "6 months" or whatever. But I am ALL for it. Get the dog set for life before sending it off to some unknowns house. This is what we have come to, sadly. Altering at 6 months would have been fine if more responsibility was taken.
I am an alter advocate, especially with pit bulls. And were you all aware PETA is trying to have Pit Bull Terriers go extinct? For the sole purpose of controlling the production. So sad..
Just IMO
(this post is NOT to be taken offensively. If you take it offensively, you need therapy
LOL j/k of course about the therapy hehe)
