I may have missed it, but since I did complain about not being able to put my dog out when she was in heat I am assuming it is me

. If so, I did not say she lived outside, she would go out spend time outside in her kennel. She lives in the house but she would rather be out(and with 7 children I am not staying out with her which is why she ended up in the house, miserable). I just don't feel I should need to alter my life, on my property, because people are irresponsible and "lose" their intact dog. I just think I shouldn't need to alter MY life on MY property because of someone else, and that applies to more than just dogs....

It's also pretty easy to see who has competed and/or attended such events and left their rose colored glasses at home because they have notice some of the damage selective breeding by the "experts" has done.

Yeah...I've heard this from a LOT of people I've spoken with (about spaying/neutering). It always depresses me, because I know in 90% of the cases, that means the dog will NEVER be fixed, nor will most of the offspring. So within a few years, a hundred or more "new" dogs have been produced from that original ONE person's ignorant attitude...MANY more than that if the dog is not fixed following that first round.

All 3 of my dogs are shelter dogs so are spayed/neutered. They would have been either way. My next door neighbors dog (a 1yr old LGD) was in season a few weeks ago. Not only did she escape twice from their fenced yard but we also have every Tom, Dick and Harry's male dog hanging out in the neighborhood. I have NO DOUBT there will be another litter of unwanted puppies running around here in a few months. I have never had a litter of puppies or kittens born on my property since I have been here.
I also have 3 barn cats and they are all fixed as well.

Of COURSE there are breeders out there that have done this. However, what damage has irresponsible breeding done? Millions put to death every year.

Selective breeding and exhibiting of animals is a hobby. Show dogs lead the life of Riley, for if they are not happy in the ring they will not do well! Are there some bad apples? Sure, just like in everything. However, most of the people who breed and show purebred dogs do it because they love dogs, and in particular their chosen breeds.

It is not right to tar everyone with the same brush.

JMO as always!

Irresonsible breeding is also ruining some breeds. Goldens used to be the one breed that you could go out and get from anywhere. Now, trainers are seeing more and more aggressive and fearful goldens, not to mention all the health problems from BYB breeding without any testing being done. Its a shame. There are people out there not bothering to test or throwing the tests out because they know they are breeding dysplastic hips to dysplastic hips. Same for other breeds.

You're right. Let's not tar everybody with the same brush. Please remember that it goes both ways.

I have one dog currently, and two cats. I have fostered a LOT in the past and I spay and neuter all my dogs/cats. I focus on pit bull rescue, and am absolutely for spaying and neutering bully breeds. Even if they are papered. Unless the dog has done WONDERS in the show ring, it should not be bred.

I came across a black lab that had been dumped, or lost, and man he was BEAUTIFUL. Textbook Lab. One of the best looking dogs I have EVER seen, and after searching for his owner, I had him neutered and sent to a new home with my aunt. I've fostered too many puppies to not alter my animals.

Pit Bull rescues here in CA do NOT take owner surrender. By any means. That should tell us something about the gross overpopulation of this breed. Rescues only take Pit Bulls on a DEATH row basis, IF then. Like I said above, unless the dog is amazing in the show ring (not JUST been shown, but WON) it should be altered.

Plus, for health reasons. Unaltered dogs are prone to all kinds of issues, usually with reproductive organs. Same goes for cats. Both my male cats are neutered, and were neutered at 5 months BEFORE they were let outside.

It is hard that now the SPCA has to spay 8 week old puppies, because people cannot get it together enough to fix them at "6 months" or whatever. But I am ALL for it. Get the dog set for life before sending it off to some unknowns house. This is what we have come to, sadly. Altering at 6 months would have been fine if more responsibility was taken.

I am an alter advocate, especially with pit bulls. And were you all aware PETA is trying to have Pit Bull Terriers go extinct? For the sole purpose of controlling the production. So sad..

Just IMO

(this post is NOT to be taken offensively. If you take it offensively, you need therapy

Not the same. I am referring to one person making apparently uninformed comments.
