Dog thread!🐾

Hey, Dawg, did you know I recently got a 2-yo Golden bitch? Her name is Jenny. I got her from a breeder so we are working on socializing, sigh, but she is a sweetie. She's very bonded to me now, but still a little unsure of DH and the GirlChild.
Y'all were talking a few pages back about protective dogs. I had a very sweet and sociable Golden many years ago, loved everybody, used to help me teach my obedience classes - and he protected me on three occasions, when I actually needed it. On two occasions he just got between me and another person with a very authoritative bark, which was all that was needed. But the third time he sent the intruder scrambling over a fence with a nip to the back pocket to hasten him on his way! He knew when to protect. Oh, and as for being off leash, we did that a lot - and he stayed right in Heel position, no matter what the distraction. He certainly would not wander off to go visit somebody else's dog! He was, after all, the teacher's pet! 😄

All I know is that people call them miniature Australian Shepherds and they do not meet weight requirements per the ASCA.

Are they an AKC breed?

Well, first off AKC is a registry, so there isn't any AKC breed, but I get what you mean. Mini Australian shepherds are the name BYBs use, even though it's quite literally the same breed as the Miniature American Shepherd (just more temperamentally and physically sound) and yes, they are recognised by the AKC. Not sure to which extent though. On the other hand, doodles aren't recognised, because they're mix breeds

I think I saw you mention her somewhere - how exciting!!! Good luck with the socializing, etc. ❤️

And wow he sounds like he was amazing and the perfect dog!!! Hahah seriously! I wish you could’ve cloned him :lau

Because I absolutely despise when a strange dog comes up to me and is not controlled. I don't care how well trained the dog is, I do not want an unrestrained dog in me or my dog's space because my dog does not do well with other dogs.
Sounds like you need to hire a professional trainer for your intolerant dog, before it causes a problem.
Or just stay away from areas that people frequent with their dogs.
You cannot blame others for your dog's lack of socialization.

Have to jump in here. A couple of dogs of this breed - whether pure or mix, I don't know - attacked my then 18 yo grand daughter who was just walking past their house and nearly tore her leg off. While the owners stood by and watched. So don't tell me how sweet and adorable they are.
Punish the owners, not the breed!
(I get so sick of that, "Punish the deed, not the breed!")
Unfortunately, the American Staffordshire Terrier is the latest 'macho' breed. My redneck neighbor has one and thinks it's funny when it grows at my dog. My dog doesn't react to it because he's well trained. She's lucky that way.
Terriers have some really good attributes, unfortunately, many are not being trained properly.
