Dog thread!🐾

Long post here.

The reason why it took me so long to notice his weight I think is because I wasn’t sure if he was just filling out or fat 🤣🤣🤣

I did order him some weight loss chews to try though so we’ll see. I don’t think it will cause him to lose too much weight or anything like that. Especially since it says it takes 12 weeks to lose a significant amount and I only got him the one month supply. And he needs to lose less than that amount. If it works though I might order more but they are expensive.

But I’ve just been cutting his food back and upping his exercise.

He’s down to like a cup and a half in the morning and a cup and a half at night mixed with a couple spoonfuls of wet so he eats it. And I’m thinking of cutting him down even more to just 2 cups instead of 3.

And the doggie sit ups help lol sit down then back up to a sit then back down over and over LOL As well as sit-down-stand up-then down again. Or sit stand sit stand. And sit pretty as well. We do different variations of it but all the same effect. Working his core and everything. Burning fat and building muscle hopefully. 😁

He gets heavily rewarded for it, don’t worry LOL

We also of course use the flirt pole (carefully) and marsh explorations and we’re going to be adding walks. He used to do zoomies on the marsh but really doesn’t anymore. He also really doesn’t like fetch anymore either. 😭😭😭

I guess I need to just do normal walks but I want to build up to the big huge miles long ones again. We need to start by doing short neighborhood ones again. We usually take our time and do more ā€œsniffarisā€ where he stops and sniffs everything which takes longer but is good for his mental stimulation BUT!!! I need to start incorporating some normal fitness/obedience walks where he heels or at least LLWs beside me and doesn’t sniff so that we can move fast and get the exercise portion in.

So yeah.

Denver absolutely loves doing doggy sit ups i make her lay down then go to a sit. And the flirt pole you have to be careful with those. Tucker goes crazy and will jump 6ft to get it...
Since my ankle injury thats all ive been able to do with them is doggy sit ups, the flirt pole and fetch.

Denver at one point wouldnt fetch at all, dont end the fetching when they are tired(most people do this and i did it to) end the fetching when they are most excited. This way they want to play again.

Also be careful because lowering his food and adding exercise can leave him hungry. When mine dont get a lot of exercise i cut their food down a little when they get exercise they get the same amount as normal.

If you find a way to stop him from sniffing everything let me knowšŸ˜‚

He likes the sit ups to a point then he gets sassy like really Mom!?!? 🤣🤣🤣

And yeah, we’re careful about it and only play a few minutes cause he’s out of shape lol

I’m not injured but I’m out of shape and hate walking so I’m trying out other stuff. But walking is good for both of us so I’m going to start.

Good idea on the fetch and the food thing. But honestly I figure being a little hungry is a good thing because he was getting unlimited food then down to 5 cups but 5 plus a whole or half can is WAY too much food. I don’t do anywhere near that much wet anymore but yeah. Maybe I should cut him back slowly and stick with 3 cups for a while.

And well he knows heel and will listen if I order it but I usually don’t.

Denver just gets up and walks away when she doesnt want to do it anymore.

I love going on walks it calms me. And helps with my high stress levels. Just being inside all day isnt for me.

Denver is at 4 cups for 80lbs and Tucker is at 3 and a half for 50lbs. Two different foods though.
I also like to add things to their food.

I tell Denver heel in the beginning then she usally does it but will go off and sniff whenever given the chance.
Tucker i have to do what i taught him and it gets him into a heel then he usally is very good about heeling unless its very interesting.

I wouldn’t cut his food back too much if you are increasing his exercises

off leash/ long line walking might be better then heel since he can ran around more then, less exercises for you while he can do more šŸ˜†

Good points, thanks! I just wanted to cut it back because he was already getting waaaaaaaayyyyyy too much food anyway so I’m just cutting it back to a normal amount. But still good point. And we used to do off leash hikes/walks and stuff but there’s so many dogs around here and I don’t want to deal with it. He loves them but still.

Brewster wants the treat so he’ll do it lol

Walking is definitely calming but I just can’t walk very far anymore.

And that’s good to know. Brewster should be like 3 cups. Or 2 1/2.

That’s good they heel! Brew doesn’t like it lol but he’ll do it.
