Apparently the dogs here agree with you, even though only small dogs with permission are allowed on furniture

Oh I know, big guard dogs LOVE to snooze on the sofa for some reason, even more than the small dogs. The guard dog isn't allowed on furniture for exactly this reason

Yeah, their life expectancy in the US is pretty terrible. 5-9 years or something. In the UK I believe it's 10. Here, the breeders say it ranges from 8 to 11,12

Way better! Still a little less than I'd like, but it makes the primary problem the size, instead of its life expectancy

This look like normal behavior to me for a field bred Springer spaniel. It's why I would never own one. They were pretty popular back in the 80-90's and most were crazy hyper dogs. They are bred to hunt all day, and seem to have troubles calming down especially when young. Might help to practice calm with her, but I think it's all normal.
