Not at all what I said. If that's what you got from that you need to reread. I said just because you get a dog with health certificates etc that doesn't mean the "breeder" did any actual extra work. That puppy's parents could have been bought weeks before and you wouldn't know any better and they could still charge you 1000 dollars a pup under the false pretense that it's so much hard work and they spent so much on testing etc.

Thats why i would find a good ethical breeder if you want a puppy from somewhere good. If you want to rescue then go find a puppy in need.

Lol that's ideal of course but both good and ethical are really just constructs but that's a different conversation

The world isn't black and white. You can't be for certain either way what anyone will do under different circumstances.

Honestly isn't anything wrong with saving an animal from a not so ideal situation. Some people might argue it's commendable and a step up for an animal if someone would take a dog from a "puppymill" type situation and use it in a more controlled breeding program. It's not exactly not reputable to purchase a dog in auction, it's common practice in the breeding world.

In 2014 a Tibetan mastiff sold for nearly 2million in china.

I never said there was anything wrong with buying from a breeder. I simply said multiple times that just because they appear to be a reputable breeder that doesn't really mean anything. Don't pay 1000 for a dog just because a breeder tries justifying high prices by using medical tests etc. Those people really just care about the money.

Ah okay. I must’ve misinterpreted then. And I personally think the tests are extremely important and worth the price but I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree on that. I do see your point.

I bought my dog at 7 weeks ( it was kind of early, but the weather conditions were worsening, and then I couldn’t have picked her up for weeks) , she would have also charged me every extra day I couldn’t pick her up, not from a licensed breeder, but…she gave me a copy of the papers of both father and mother, and it was her 3. time breeding them together, she gave me contacts of the owners who had purchased pups from previous litters, and now my dog is already 6 , I’m still in contact with her, and she also gave me advice whenever I needed it

Wow, I’m a bit confused. I know I should be very, very careful with choosing a breeder, although my therapist is advocating that I get one asap for the extra support and refocusing that mental energy on a pup rather than my depression.

It is hard if you want a AD/SD! I couldn’t wait for months or years for mine, like other people who want companion dog can

You can look at the akc marketplace find litters close to you then research the breeder. Contact the breed club and ask them about breeders

you may have to wait until next year, breeders my not be advertising their litters because of how close it is to Christmas

and remember a lot of people on the Internet decided on “rules” they think breeders most follow which isn’t true, specially if you are looking for a working dog

So where’s the confusion? You want to make sure you’re getting one from a reputable breeder and not supporting puppy mills or otherwise. If you need one faster, you could always rescue a dog. They have tons of puppies nowadays. And ESAs don’t need to be any specific breed, temperament, or training since they don’t have public access. So a rescue would work fine.

Rescue isn’t necessarily good for ESA, having a dog with behaviour issues is extremely mentally draining! Not to mention the period of them getting used to the house is not fun either, its a lot worse then a puppy

Not all rescue dogs have behavior issues. That’s a myth. Especially if you get a puppy and raise it right. Brew has no issues. And I know 5 other rescue dogs who also have zero issues. Except one used to resource guard slightly but doesn’t anymore. But that’s the only issue out of 6 dogs. And well bred dogs can have behavioral issues too. My friends dog is a serial humper and she’s from a breeder. Not a rescue.

And they said possibly a service dog, not definitely yet.
