Dog thread!🐾

He turned a year old on November.
I have tried a day of almost no exercise(the day it was to cold to be outside), he was constantly up, but did sleep a bit more. He is crate trained i just put him in there and he is sleeping.

He also did super well at the jumps. He is jumping 12 in no problem. I didnt push it any higher, maybe thats why he is sleeping
His growth plates aren’t closed yet so I would decrease his exercises, 3 hours of strenuous exercise is a lot for his age. I don’t know what ages it safe to start jumping dogs at but I wouldn’t do it daily at his age. You could try doing hoopers which is similar to agility but doesn’t have any jumps, it might help with the basics of agility and give him both mental and physical exercise while being safer to do more frequently

he might not know how to calm down (what some people call not having an off switch) so it might be good to make sure he has regular forced rest time, which will help him start regulating his energy

and definitely talk to his vet about it!

I know the exercise is a lot, but thats the only way to get him to settle down a bit.
The agility i wont be doing everyday. I planned on making hoopers.
I taught him to have a off switch as a puppy, so he knows. Surprisingly he is laying down again right now.

I’m happy to have found this thread - chickens AND dogs?! What’s not to love? I’ve enjoyed seeing all your pups!

This is Bear. He’s our Pyrenees/anatolian shepherd mix. He’s almost two years old now. He enjoys looking after the chickens and sees our kids as part of his ā€œflockā€ also. Bear has a side job of welcoming committee 😁

Hopping in late but hi! I currently have two pups-one adopted: a golden retriever/poodle mix ("goldendoodle") and a GSD. The doodle pup was given up to a rescue with the mom because I guess he was the last one, too old, less curly fur, so they couldn't sell him (fortunately for me though, as I'll get into later).

I don't currently do any sports or shows, as Jack, my shepherd, is a senior and not as energetic anymore, but my doodle, Kylo, is my service dog so there's that! Side note: I feel like I hit the jackpot with Kylo, because I've always heard that doodles are genetic nightmares with awful personalities, but that hasn't been my experience at all! He graduated from his training last summer, and since then, he's been successfully tasking and going everywhere with me: Even as far as Disney recently. ā¤ļø

My favorite breed is the Border Collie though. I had one I named Oreo as a child, but she passed away, and I miss her every day.

Kylo is a beautiful pup!
Not all doodles are going to have problems, but they are unethically bred and most doodles atleast around me come from puppy mills. Shelters are stocked with unwanted doodles and bully mixes.

Oh absolutely, and I think the fact he was given up because he was 5 months old and not sold, as well as "straight haired" is a testament to that. I think a lot of people want the teddy bear look. It's funny, because his straight fur, mop-ish look was actually the thing I found very endearing. Thank you very much!

I don’t think he knows it fully if he won’t rest without 3+ hours exercise. To me he needs more training on calmness and less exercise.

I like his mop look! He reminds me of an afghan

We left for 4 hours as we had some errands to run a hour away. He slept the whole time, but that was also after a hour walk. Then ran him for 15 minutes after we got home. So exercise today was 3 hours instead of 4.
