I love standards too, but they are too big for me to comfortably take care of these days. I always meant to get one, but never did. A miniature is more manageable for me and I should be able to groom it myself. Where the standard would push my physical limits.

I understand that.

The relative that had the miniature poodles grew up with Standard Show poodles, ive seen pictures and they were gorgeous!
But as they got older it got harder for her
Now she has two rescue yorkies and a shi tzu.

Maybe I will end up with Shih-tzu instead. I'm just like thinking about it now. It helps to deal with my grief. I don't think I can handle another Aussie, nor will another ever be as good as the one I lost. She was the best, and I always had the best conversations with her. I think my remaining Aussie will have to do.

I still have 6 dogs, and it may be enough, but it's too quiet now. I like thinking about getting new dogs. Poodles and Shih-tzu are on my short list, but I'm not sure I want to commit to the grooming. I'm spoiled by my short haired breeds.

Oh and I used to groom dogs for a living.

Short haired breeds do treat us nice.

It's nice to talk to people who understand how deep the bond is with our dogs. Most of my family have no dogs, so there's not a lot of understanding. It's a lonely thing to mourn the loss of a dog. They are always there, and than they are not. They are amazing creatures, and their love is unconditional, well, maybe they wouldn't mind a bite of your sandwich, but they will still love you no matter if you shared it or not.

I agree, people don't understand the bond a good owner has with their dogs, or any animal really

He's handsome. I'm still thinking about getting a mini poodle at some point. How hyper are they? I had one decades ago as a kid and I don't recall him being bad in any way.

Depends on the individual. Panda could probably run two miles if he wanted to, but I have a big yard and when he is in the house, he is content to just sit on the couch and watch TV. Panda knows a few tricks, but like a lot of dogs, he is stubborn and food motivated, so he will only listen if I dangle some freeze dried chicken in his face.

Another thing is he can’t eat pepperoni, because the spices upset his stomach. I think that’s how it is for a lot of small dogs.
