Just FYI, it is spelled ShepHErd, and basically means sheep herder.

Does anyone ever used them for herding anymore. Even Rottweiler were used for herding once upon a time. I wonder how they decided what group to put them in when the working group split into working and herding.

Here's mine. This time of year the sun is blinding and I often have to keep the curtains closed, so my dogs sun themselves behind the curtains.

My son breeds the mini ones. They've got five I believe they've kept for years and a benign lump, very large, was all one ever had wrong with them.

I know there's all kinds of shepherds, but if we're talking like a German Shepherd, as much as I want one of mine to herd, I never knew those could. Once our border collie goes over the rainbow bridge in a few years, that's what I wanted. The reason being that we're out in the middle of nowhere, and when a strange car comes, Josie's hair is up, and her teeth are out, but the fear factor isn't the same with a German Shepherd.

I had a German shepherd as a kid. I see them now at the vets and they seem to be a handful, and so large. They definitely are a deterrent. Just check with your homeowners insurance to make sure they are covered or not in case of an incident. I know it's a breed that can have restrictions for some companies. Also be sure to share. They are adorable puppies.

I have certainly seen handfuls of German Shepherds at the vet, but I have also seen really good ones. It comes down to proper breeding and good training.

I was talking about german shepherds. Ive seen australian shepherds herding, but no other. Then border collies.
I for surely want any shepherd
