That makes sense! Just another thing to add, I also think that neutering them keeps them from developing mentally. And I find it interesting because Iāve heard from hunting dog trainers (two different ones on different occasions) that they donāt accept neutered dogs to their program because they believe they donāt have the mental capacity to do the work. Again, this could fall into people over dramatizing things but I still find it interesting.
He is so smart though, and he loves to work. I'm just weaker than I need to be to consistently handle him right now, and my husband doesn't have any sense of rhythm for training animals.He tends to ignore food that's on the ground, like the derp he is.
At the very least, he does have a maze-like slow feeder bowl.
I think I actually read something about that once. Neutering too early can cause them to be in like a āpuppy mindedā state instead of maturing into an adult brain LOL IDK how true that is or not though

Yeah that sound tough. I personally hunting for their food is more mentally stimulating than lick mats. More work on your part but I think itās worth it. Scattering food around really gets them to use their noses. But some argue that this can cause training issues with them being more focused on the ground that you or thinking they can just eat anything they find. I think that having a clear routine/command avoids these issues though.

yeah I totally get that. Especially with how wild he is. Sometimes wild dogs are a nightmare to work with because they simply have no idea how much damage then can do just by being happy
Funny! Many try to use his prey drive then. Iād hold him back and wave food in front of him then throw it. Then wait a second or two for your release command. This should make him want to chase it. I have actually seen him flip his spill-proof water bowl upside down after emptying it (he has two bowls so he doesn't run out), and put a rock inside the rings of metal to nose around. It's pretty funny.

I'm going to try switching him over to a new food. I didn't realize there was still somewhere nearby that sold ToTW so I want to try that, even if it costs way too much
