Dog used pullets as a toy.. Help!

OK for anybody who might want to know. Henny is now outside back at her house. I thought she was getting homesick. and she walked around, drank water, and I dug up a few earthworms for her and I think she might have ate one. unless it out into the shavings? So hopefully shes gonna live

Now all I need is a buddy for her. but I can't seem to find one close enough. So I'll be on the lookout for a hen. Thanks for your prayers and advice. it came in handy!

Thats great news! Will continue to keep you in my thoughts..

Remember - you shouldnt introduce any new birds into your flock for quite a few weeks (biosecurity). Especially if you have this one healing. Wait until she's completely healed before introducing new birds - it could be very detrimental to her recovering.

sorry about your other girl

Thanks, and okay, how long do you think I should wait? I think shes loney. I dont want her to give up on living.

Yayy!! I'm so glad she'd doing better. I don't know anything about introducing new birds, but while she's alone maybe you could play the radio for her? Don't know if it would help but I used to do that to keep my parrot from being lonely. It's probably not the same for a chicken, but it might help.

Great suggestions here.

When you pull the skin together if you have only hydrogen peroxide on hand, dilute it with water.
Peroxide kills living cells.
Someone chime in here if I am wrong.
Most important to keep the skin and flesh hydrated, just be sure to flush it with saline or diluted peroxide first. If you pulled it together and haven't cleaned it, it might not be too late. if the edges haven't stuck together you can get liquid in there to rinse it.

How many Pullets do you have, how many were injured and where are their injuries at on the body?

My sick hen wouldn't eat ANYTHING but plain yogurt that I mixed with a little of her feed. Not egg, not worms, nothing but the yogurt mix. So try that.

I sometimes had to put a little in her beak first (force-fed) then she would get the idea and eat on her own. When she was weakest, she would take a few bites of yogurt then close her eyes and just sit. But when I would stir the yogurt mixture with a spoon in front of her beak she would get excited about it and eat more. I don't know why she was like that but it worked well, and I knew she was getting at least a tablespoon of feed along with 2 Tablespoons of yogurt a day at her weakest. She's much much better now.

Also, I think you are going to have to make some decisions about your puppy. The puppy can never be in the vicinity of the chickens or this will happen again. You'll have to make a secure run probably, to keep the chickens in at all times, just in case the puppy gets out again when you're not looking. Have you thought about this at all? Maybe you can ask your grandpa for help with it.

Last year, my dogs got out of their yard while the chickens were free-ranging, and killed and maimed several. One Marans pullet was severely injured, and had the flesh stripped from her neck and shoulders to the extent that her trachea and some bones were exposed. It was awful. But darned if she wasn't up and running around, so we did not put her down. She moved slower for a few days, but we just sprayed the area with BluKote and hoped for the best. We called her "Neckbone." You could even see her crop--she looked like a butchered chicken walking around.

Now she's called "Suzette," and she's a huge favorite. Tough as nails!

WOW . Thanks for telling me. I don't feel so bad.

And everyone my pup is 4 month old. She didn't know better. She was playing. I shouldn't of happened in the first place because we have a fence. My girls left her out, I didnt know it I was cleaning our "pig sty" and I think she just got board and got to them. or maybe they got in. It's not like I'm going to let her do it again. And I'm not going to kill her or give her up. Mistakes happen. to EVERYONE!

So anyways. The other pullet is still living. and Now eating!!!!! I think she will live now. She pry won't be beautiful, but neither am I. So Thanks again for all of your help, guidance, and prayers.
