dog was sick * A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!*

I didn't read all of the updates and I have to finish making breakfast. I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but ehrlichiosis can cause bleeding and can be treated with antibiotics by a vet. Especially if it's caught early enough. Rat poison can also be treated by a vet.

I am hoping against hope that she is doing much better this morning.

thanks:]

since she isn't eating, she won't take her pills of vitamin k, is there any other way I can have her eat and take her pills? I've tried covering it with peanut butter, jelly, and cheese, and she won't eat anything.

any advice would be great!

yep ... time to open the mouth and put them in the back of the throat ... close mouth and blow, gently, in the nose. Watch the neck for movement. Then check the lips for pills! Dogs with heavy lips can hid them quite easily ... you can add a little butter to help the "slide".

That's also what I do here. I never trust that they will eat it with the food. I coat is generously with butter, open the mouth and aim for the back of the throat. Gentle hold muzzle closed and hope they don't spit it back out, so we have to try again. They do make pill pockets to hid meds in, but I am not sure if they will help if she isn't eating.

I agree with one of the other posters that you need to get to an emergency hospital for emergency supportive care, IV's etc... SHE NEEDS SUPPORTIVE CARE. I hope she makes it...

Ice cream is the only thing that gets pills down my akita without physically popping them down her throat. She doesn't chew the ice cream and the cold numbs her mouth so she doesn't find the pills and it's just as desireable to her as meat.

If it were my vet they would have kept her there on IV with vitamin k injections and then send her home with a 7 day treatment after she was stable. I know for certain that's what they would do because one of mine got in to a small amount of rat poison before her spay surgery and started to bleed out shortly after the surgery. She stayed at the vet on IV and injections for 4 days before they would release her. Unfortunately while there cautious and thorough attitudes are probably the only reason she's alive it did cost me $2000 spay included.

The veterinarian needs to put her on injectable Vitamin K and should never have sent her home without at least starting treatment this way. I was a certified technician and we never sent patients home without doing so AND getting a diagnosis when the patient was bleeding internally. She needs intensive care right now.

to make a long story short my fil got bit by a bobcat out trapping last year i think it was and he went to the hospital. they started rabbies shot series, gave a tetnus and sent him home 4 hours later he got sick and kept getting worse. he didn't want to be a bother to noone and wouldn't go to the hospital by day 2 he went to er it had got so bad. they couldn't figure it out either and infection spred up his arm even with antibiotic they finaeally gave him. we went to visit day 5 and next day they said if it didn't go down past line they were amputateing his arm above the line they drew. we told him to have them check for pasteurella(i have cats so i know it is in the saliva and i trap so i knew it was very possible it was the cause since a wild cat). he did that and they researched and changed the antibiotic and next day swelling and infection went down below the line. 2 days later he was out of the hospital and fine.

so my sugestion is have them check for it and should have an antibiotic that can kill that bacteria and pain meds. if it was my vet they also would have iv'd the dog and kept it there, she is in critical condition and should imediately be put in icu. cats can cause cat scratch fever also from claws but don't know if only domestics can spread that one. best of luck and please keep us posted. i hope and pray something helps her she is gorgous!
