Dog won't stop licking

If you don't have a collar to use and wrapping it doesn't work, maybe "knock her out?" I have used benedryl as a sedative. The usual dose is 1 mg benedryl/pound.

And definitely talk with the vet again.

Don't tell me that! I just put down my best buddy of 9 years(another Great Dane) because of bone cancer 2 weeks ago. He never chewed or licked his hips. Could she be having anxiety over his passing? I got her as a 6 week old puppy and she was glued to him from the first day.

my vet told me to keep it un-wrapped...and the fur around the area needs to be clipped or shaved...it needs to dry out...thats why the e-collar is so important....i think they sell them at petco...and if the wound is deep..you will need an antibiotic...

Have the vet check her for worms, it sometimes will cause a dog to lick, not sure why though. If not worms she could be nervous. Licking is also a form of affection for dogs and cats, I have a dog that insists on licking me and I don't let her so she licks herself instead. I love my pets but the licking bugs me. Once or twice is ok but after that I make them stop.

I'd try Benadryl ASAP. On a dog that size I'd give her 50mg. It will help with the itching and will also calm her.
There is a company called #1 All Systems and they make a tea tree spray that is WONDERFUL for this kind of stuff and it tastes AWFUL and I don't mean a little bad I mean AWFUL! You will probably have to order it online but it is worth the $ and you can use it on all kinds of stuff on the dog and yourself. It's antiseptic, antifungal and antibiotic. Really great stuff.

First I'd put an E collar on your pooch to stop the licking. Then I would check the diet. Are you feeding a dog food with grains? If so, you may want to switch. Kent makes a great food called Native that not too many people know about.

I had a dog that would get an upset tummy from high end foods, even Nutro. We switched to Native and voila! No more yacking every day and the dogs look great!

(The company should pay me for all the advertising I do for them!)

Do they have a website I can look at? She has been on the same food all her life so I wouldn't THINK that was the problem. But I have seen dogs develope food allergies for no reason.
