Here's the website I did my research on before switching my dogs over.
http://www.nativedogfood.com/

I was lucky, FJ Krob near me carries this feed as well as the horse pellets I feed. I've noticed a few chain stores in my area very recently started carrying Native.

Native comes in 4 different leves, 1, 2, 3, 4. I started on 1, but switched to 2, they started losing weight. (1 of my 3 dogs is an easy keeper so he still gets half ration and green beans)

Used to induce stereotypies in rats with amphetamines (I was guessing dopamine related - though from the link there appear to be many causes for this in dogs).

Good luck!

Do you think this could be a yeast problem. Symptoms include dogs licking their paws, scratching ears, vaginal yeast infections, etc. Acidophillus given orally and vinegar topically can help, but I don't know about vinegar once bleeding has started. I hope you figure something out! Often these itching problems are food-based. Corn and Wheat are not natural foods for dogs, but are usually the primary ingredients in store-bought kibble.

I would get a cone on her asap. then start to research what has changed in her environment or diet. the passing of her "buddy" could very well be the problem. "I got her as a 6 week old puppy and she was glued to him from the first day". I think I would be kinda a wreck... perhaps boredom, had a play mate all the time and now has too much time on her hands. get her lots of exercise, a very tired dog will want to sleep, not inspect her leg. other things like getting your carpet cleaned, new laundry soap, fertilizing the grass or spraying for bugs all could have caused an allergic reaction. what has changed in her environ. tracking down what a dog is allergic to is very difficult at best. but you must stop the licking yesterday.
good luck!!

Well to be honest ALOT of things have changed in the past few weeks. We lost our oldest Dane, we moved to a new house, her normal groomer moved away so she has a NEW groomer as in just started grooming. We added a cat to our family. COULD SHE BE ALLERGIC TO THE CAT? and I took my car to have it cleaned. Oh and we went from city to well water. Thats all I can think of when it comes to changes. Or things that could be the cause.

STRESS, seriously it sounds like a lot has happened to stress her out. So much at one time. I know you are concerned for her, but have you had any issues from the switch to well water. There are minerals in well water that are not normally in city water.

I was raised on well water and have only been on nasty tasting city water for about a year. She was on well water until we had to move last year.
