My dogs never needed any training when it came to my chickens, I have three pitbulls and an english bulldog, when they first saw my chickens I told them they were mine and now they pretty much ignore them. my bulldog says hi every once in a while and that's about it.. my point is it might not be much of an issue at all, not all dogs are a problem around chickens. however trust is earned, so obviously you will need to supervise the dogs to see how they behave. even though my dogs arent chicken aggressive i still watch them when they are out together

the "mine" command is my favorite command, whatever I designate as mine is completely off limits to my dogs and they ignore whatever it is, I can use it to designate a place as mine or an object.

We found our 2 labs were overly interested in the chickens and did try to taste them when we first brought them home. But after a few weeks of slow integration with monitoring and strict protection of chickens and voice commands etc for dogs, they all get on really well.

When we eat outside they all beg together as one big group and fight over scraps. Chickens can walk over dogs, they drink from same bucket. One lab might bark at chickens if they try to eat his food (he does this to other lab too). About 3-4 weeks before we trusted them alone.

So don't despair, it often works out.

And our dogs are not perfect, they don't walk well on a lead and generally don't come back when called. Yesterday they caught a wild rabbit and ate it. They just needed to learn that the chickens were part of their family.

Welcome. My advice might be more cruel but it works. But a muzzle and put your dog in the coop. Or buy a puppy and start training him. I have a senior that she just had to be watched. Can't change her mind. Chicken is good. But my pit had been retrained by the muzzle and long hours of chicken time. He still wants the rabbits. Our youngest play with them, even the rabbits.
Good luck.
