Domestic Teal - the new little wonders of the world

They are no where near as loud as call ducks. More like mallards. Some are silent.

Will you be selling them??

Yes, I have eggs listed on here now and will have a variety of adults available in the fall. Price will vary from $25-$100 depending on size and color rarity. Eggs are $8 each with at least 2 extra with every six eggs ordered. They hatch very well and you will get a variety of sizes and colors.

To be honest they just look like mallards with slightly different shaped bodies and bills...... They are really Hybrids not teal..... to be true domestic teal you would have had to have domesticated them for many many years, and once natural colour mutations popped up worked on those to create more. I'm not saying they aren't nice - they are! But the title is misleading is all.

I wanted to show a photo of a spotted drake during eclipse molt. This is the same spotted drake as in the original post. Oddly, I think he is much prettier during the summer covered in dots. He had a completely green head until a few days ago. I am still getting eggs, but the fertility has dropped dramatically. I am still hatching eggs and have some ducklings available that I will be posting in the Buy Sell Trade section.

There has been some discussion about the name Domestic Teal. They are, indeed, half mallard and half teal that I have selectively bred for generations to promote domestic color mutations and production with the diminutive teal size and characteristics. Teal is a term for small dabbling ducks. Bantam ducks could be used but it would misrepresent these little ducks of a different feather. Hybrids are common in the history of domestic birds and animals. Case in point, the Muscovy duck breed is a complex hybrid. Check out it's history. I will look for an article on the web and post it here, or, if someone else finds it first, please post it. The domestic muscovy is only one example of many hybrid domestics.
