dominique girl off - facial color, green poop, crop feels fine - help

I am bringing my hen into the house in the morning to get her to eat uninteruppted she easily gets distracted and wonders off if my other hen eats with her. I have managed to give her some tinned cat food ~ 1/4 of a tiny tin, and some sunflower chips, and a bit of tinned salmon. She seems to be craving greens so she also got baby greens. In the morning I mix some of their layer pellets with warm water and buttermilk, and she ate some of that and drank some water with vitamins/electrolytes. Although it may sound like a lot she has eaten very little of the above.

in regard to a possilbe moult - there is no sign of feather loss anywhere on her body.

- no i have never wormed my girls with a wazine type wormer.
i do add diatomaceous earth to their feed - some call that worming so do not.

chuckzoo -
here are the efforts i am currently taking with miss dominique

housing -
miss dominique is now spa-ing it up the bathroom. i set up a red heat lamp especially for her at +5'6" from floor height.
the warmth seems to be helping as it might for anyone feeling a bit off.

feed -
ground up manna pro calf manna with homemade raw milk yogurt
scrambled eggs with olive oil

water -
water with electrolytes

in regard to hand feeding -
i use a small medicine dropper to feed yogurt and/or yogurt mixed with olive oil. they work great and if you can find the plastic version you can snip the bottom off in order to widen the opening.

miss dominique is eating on her own. the eggs and yogurt are a hit. i hope the calf manna will help to provide a quick dose of nutrients, vitamins and minerals. fingers crossed. no change with her color yet - we'll see how that goes relative to her renewed will to eat. i'll keep this post updated with her developments.

wishing you the best with your girl chuckzoo! take care.

Same to you!
I put my 2 girls in my little garden that I had grown vegetables it this morning - it was nice in the sun, and she acted quite normal for a while. Then returned them to their run as it's a bit warmer with lots of straw. I think it's key to keep them warm. This way they don't waste energy on trying to stay warm. As long as they eating good high protein diet I think things will turn out well. Her spa bathroom sounds really cool - I'm jealous!

daily update in the case other folk are working with chickens in a similar situation

monday january 11, 2o1o 8:03am

color - color is still off though not as yellow as yesterday (i turned off the red heat lamp to see more clearly) - i will check in on her several times today to see if the color fluctuates relative to time of day.

appetite - quite good - eggs are her first choice - calf manna mixed in yogurt second choice

water with electrolytes - she is drinking. i would like to see her drink more

droppings - she pooped a few times last night. they are less runny. they have a better balance of white and dark blackish green bits now which is an improvement - yesterday they were runnier. still i hope we'll move toward brown droppings in near future

housing - i will keep her indoors today as her temperament is cheery and chatty. i think/hope the warmth is helping her body focus on healing elsewhere.
