In the Brooder
Hello all!
I have a couple of 4-week old Dominique chicks. I got them from a local feed store that told me they were all sexed to be pullets. I noticed some differences between my two Dominiques from the beginning and they are becoming even more pronounced. I was hoping to gain some insight from the community.
Here is the one I am finding to be suspect and will refer to as #1.
#1-Top, #2-Bottom -- I notice no black on the beak of #1
#1-Left. #2-Right -- #1 has a lot more white showing up and a larger tail
#1-Left, #2-Right -- I notice a larger comb starting on #1
3
#1-Right, #2-Left Notice the differences in the color of the shanks/feet
They both seem to have sweeping wings with no primary feather length difference, but maybe they are just too young to see a difference?
#1-Wing
#2-Wing
I know these birds are only 4 weeks old but do any of you see my same suspicion that #1 could be a cockerel? Should I wait it out longer? I am keeping these birds in my back yard in an HOA so I am trying to keep a low profile. My neighbors are actually happy to see them and get eggs so they have no quarrel with me having them. I don't want to ruin that pact by introducing a crowing rooster to the mix.
Any advice you have would be appreciated. This is my first post here so thank you for letting me be part of the community! This place has already been a massive help for me getting going.
