Dominique Thread!

Just found this thread and thought I would share a cute story of my Nikki girl. She is 30 weeks old and has been laying for 10 weeks now. She has been such a great girl - one of those girls you might keep on long after she stops laying.

A couple of days ago, I decided to try putting wooden eggs into the nesting box to “encourage” my 2 girls who weren’t laying yet. Well, that didn’t go over so well with a couple of them, especially my "head hen" Nikki. She made a fuss as soon as I put them in there…bawking away and even pushing/pecking them. How dare I! I left them in there overnight figuring she would calm down, but when I got to the coop in the morning, she was acting all Henny Penny, the sky is falling. She was in such a tizzy and was making such a fuss – she wanted to be sure that I knew she was not happy with the current arrangements. So, I took them out…the entertainment value of it alone was worth it though.

I could swear that she was putting her wings on her hips cussing me out - can't you just picture it!

Below is a pic of my 6 girls.

I am starting to have second thoughts about my spring chick order.

Looking at Dominique rooster pictures again, some have really BIG wattles!

How in the world am I going to keep such large things free of frostbite???
