OK....

I have an order placed with Duane Urch/Turnlund

but what if he doesn't fill it? (it happens)

So, I am wondering if I should place a second order from some other place....

I was tempted to get some Doms from McMurray...but what if I get total mutts?

How bad are McMurray's Doms?

I was considering McMurray since I wanted 3 breeds, Doms, Golden Penciled Hamburgs, and RC Leghorns.

So, then I thought that perhaps I should just order eggs from some of you'll guys (possible toilet flush of money, because of shipping, but might work out)

I just spent a HORRID amount of time trying to go through this entire thread again, but can't find good pictures of everyone's roosters, since I want Doms that look like doms WITH SMALL WATTLES, and some of the roosters have gigantic ones.

MY goal, is that the winter of 2013-2014 will be the last winter I have frostbite on chickens!

Consider Cackle hatchery.

From people I have talked to, and myself ordering frm Cackle a few years ago, Most hatchery stock will have a high rate of massive combs and wattles. Some have incorrect shape, more like a barred rock. Cackle seems (of all the major hatcheries) to have stock that is OK. That being said, you will go through a lot of cockerels before you get one with a small comb and small wattles. Even with breeder stock, its something that we all work on. Here is a posting of "Lot". His wattles are closer and his comb is nice, but winter isn't over yet, and we could still get some frostbite. When this photo was taken he was 7 months old. He is relaxed in this photo, and the tail is usually carried a bit higher, which "shortens" the back and makes it more U shaped.
1000

When I ordered from Cackle, ALL of the roosters had huge spiky combs, and wattles that rival any pendulum out there. To get past that, being in AK, you will either have to risk shipped eggs from a breeder and hatch them out, and hope for the best, or go with a hatchery and hope even more.

Also, consider joining the Dominique Club of America. Great breeders, folks are very willing to help out, and a fantastic newsletter.

My understanding is Cackle is entertaining idea of acquiring stock from a very reputable keeper of Dominiques in Missouri that is a member of DCA. Chicks I think would thus cost a bit more than usual but you would also be acquiring quality.

That is true. Two breeders in fact. One for Large fowl, and the other for Bantams. It is a great development in the Dominique world.
