What's wrong with her eye?

Is there a SOP for crowing? In other words, how should a dominique roosters crow sound like? My guy has a pretty nice crow but his voice is kind of high-pitched. Thoughts?

:D not in Dominiques. My guys have always had pretty decent crows, not stellar, but not odd either.

As to the eye, no idea. Maybe you should post that over in diseases. :idunno

This is my Dominique Cockerel named Stewart. Thoughts on conformation to the SOP? Pictures probably don't show the girls very well but any thoughts on them as well?

How old are they? I love Doms for their personality first and foremost. Next I like the leaders (spikes) at the back of the rosecomb, and then I like the pretty U-shape profile on the backs of both sexes. Many concentrate on feathering and other qualities but the first 3 I mentioned are the most important to me that makes the Dom unique as soon as you spot them in a flock. It could be the way Stewart is posing but I don't see the traditional U-shape back on him.

They are all about 19 weeks old. Now that you mention it his back does seem a little "flat" on the bottom of the u shape. Yes I love there personality as well.

Your babies are still juveniles. Roos take a long time to come into full bloom so give your youngsters time to mature. I had a sweet Breda cockerel that was pathetic at 5 months with only saddle feathers coming in but by a year his beautiful tail was finally in. These chickens love to keep you guessing how they'll turn out! Doms & Bredas are at the top of my list of favourite LF personalities and the little Silkies are my favourite in the bantams. Most LF breeds can be fun and funny and be nice birds but there's just something special about Doms & Bredas to me.

Chick #2 not so sure. Has some red in the comb and is slower feathering than the #1. And wont stay still for photo lol!

Here's my Bubbles. Since she's our only Dom, I can't say if she's good quality or not. I've seen many with prettier combs. She's got an awesome personality, so for that, she's one of the favorites. She will be 1 yr old in a few days..

She was our only egg to hatch. Looking back:

Her typical "pick me up" look.

HB, Bubbles! I wouldn't mind that pretty comb on Bubbles - it looks like she has the rosecomb leader. It looks like she has the U-shape back that Dom's are known for but need to see a profile body pic to know for sure. I agree with you - Dom personalities are fantastic.

As for your bantam -- we have a bantam Silkie that seeks out the nicest LF to hang around with. I'm thinking bantams know they are the smallest in the flock and seek the nicest personality LF buddy for protection. We have a 5-yr-old Silkie that has had a couple LF buddies to hang out with. We thought she was molting when we first got her but found out later she was being cannibalized on the roost by a sneaky Marans. While out foraging the Silkie would choose to hang out with a White Leghorn who would occasionally need to put the Marans in its place. We don't have the Marans or the Leg any more so the Silkie's newest LF buddy was a gentle Ameraucana.

The LF Ameraucana injured her leg and she's disabled and probably will never be out in a flock environment again so the Silkie lost her foraging buddy. Last year we added a Breda that submits to the 5yr old Silkie and I like it that way. I was going to get a Dom to replace the disabled Amer in the outdoor flock but the Breda is a slightly smaller breed so we ordered another Breda instead. That way we'll have 2 Bredas and 2 Silkies in the flock. The Breda is as close to a Dom personality as we could get. The only difference is that the Breda is about a half pound lighterweight than a Dom and isn't known to be broody like Doms. I wanted Doms but we were pleasantly surprised with our experiment to try a Breda and decided to get a 2nd to keep alike breeds together. There are so many different breeds that I like but zoned for only 5 hens so it really limits my decisions
