Dominique Thread!

Incubating 3 dom eggs and I have 6 dom pullets, can I feather sex and headspot sex doms? I'm hoping for a cockerel * cross fingers!!
Yes. The females have a compact head spot, darker legs, and sometimes slightly darker fluff. The males have an irregular-shaped head spot/ less defined edges, more yellowish / skin-colored legs, and overall more diffused markings. The link below shows helpful pics.

I don't think wing sexing works, but in a couple weeks as their feathers grow in, it's still not very hard to tell them apart. The males tend to have more white making them look gray at a distance, while the females have more black, so they'll look dark or black from a distance. There's always the early pink on the combs to give it away as they mature.

thanks so much! I hatched a half dom chick earlier in the year and it's a boy :( I hope that at least one of these eggs is a boy, if it is and a quality bird, the doms get their own coop next spring! Then hopefully many many Dominique's here! Love them!

it's not foolproof, but I look for three things in my Dom Roos and I have 2 strains. 1) a head spot that is irregular and broken and larger. kind of like a head splat as opposed to females which tend to be a tight, smaller unbroken spot or almost no spot at all. 2) Larger feet at birth as opposed to females who are a bit more delicate and spindly legged. 3) Predominately yellow feet with little to black streaking as females tend to have a lot of black on the legs and feet at birth. I have found in m 2 strains which are completely different in other aspects, this works for me.

I'm new to keeping chickens, my birds are now 6 weeks old. I need help identifying, please? I bought my birds from the local feed store, and this one was labeled a Dominique pullet. I just want to be sure she is, indeed, a Dom pullet and not a Barred Rock cockerel (I can't keep roos in my area.) So, is this a Dominique hen or BR roo?

And a shot of her as a week old chick:

The straight comb indicates a barred rock or sex-linked bird. Dominiques have rose combs. unfortunately, with a comb that big at this age-it is most likely male.
