Dominique Thread!

ok I am not a Dominique breeder just more of a Crele fan so when he asked me to post these I said I would. If anyone wants to contact him directly let me know and I can get you his info. In case you have more questions on how these where developed.

I will let you know that the "Crele" color on these birds you posted is very poor and very smutty. I will also say they just look like a mix and not a Dominique at all.

This is a good Crele pattern. (pictures below are not of my birds)

The hen you posted is nice . These are my young Crele penedesenca. As far as if they are a mix or not I am not familiar with Dominique's so you all would know better. I was merely posting for Lee
I think the color of the second to last rooster is nice though. More of a orange or red pattern though.

there is a Dominique club of America, that is actively promoting this wonderful breed. I have them on the prairie in South Dakota. It was -15 night before last and -7 last night. I had months of 100-118 degree days last summer. These birds are tuff. I had NO mortality last year. I have a well insulated henhouse, but no electricity or artificial lights to it, and they still keep me in eggs. Mine run free and forage for most of their food. They thrive on Millet, with wheat,oats and corn in smaller quantities. No expensive pellets or crumbles. The table quality is outstanding too. When a dog comes down the driveway or a hawk flies past, they vanish into the weed patches and plum thickets and don't make a sound or move a feather, till the danger is past. I can think of no better breed for a homestead flock, especially in the colder northern areas. They are the birds of the pioneers in the 1800's. The oldest American breed.

cwalsh said it right - they are a great breed. You should put what you just put there in a review about the breed - they have those here on BYC you can rate each breed and put a little review about your experience with them.

If you haven't already please do join the DCA. Looking for members to get actively involved in the present and future of this great breed. We current officers are trying to do what's right by the club and take lots of feedback from members so if you have a suggestion please let us hear about it! Also, if you have photos of your birds you'd like in the newsletter send them in!

Just found this thread. Glad that I did.

We only have 3 Doms right now. But hope to hatch out some in the Spring. We have other breeds (RIR, EE, etc), but I like our Doms the best. They are so gentle and sweet.
